Jukov -> Rpd Fire Gun Bn & Curved Gun Bn (10/14/2006 4:15:30 AM)

1.IJA 2nd Rpd Fire Gun Battalion is arranged in Hong Kong(with 5.10). Cantonese mistake.
2.Is Rpd Fire Gun Battalion an INF? ART?
3.IJA 14th and 15th Curved Gun Bn was equipped with the Type98 32cm Mortar in Dec'41.

It is correct - editors sometimes change values by 1 - so the unit migrated to Hong Kong.
It is corrected already for 5.11/6.11 - to release in a matter of hours. But thanks - in case we had not cought
it already this would have brought it out.

I didn't know who had the 32 cm stuff - so thanks - will put that in 5.11/6.11.

In RHS the weapons values are such that rapid fire gun units are infantry - they do not have sufficient range (or punch for that matter) to qualify as artillery under code rules (minimum range = 3). These are ATG - and to give them more range distorts anti-tank warfare - so I made it right. Had to figure out how to make them work as infantry (which - oddly - includes tanks in WTIP). I figured it out - and so they now are more than chrome that does nothing - they actually attack!

OK - you obviously are not fluant in Japanese!

This is an attempt (the standard one) to literally translate the name of a mortar battalion.

A better translation (I am said to be very good at getting the flavor in English of original terms in other languages)
might be "High Angle Gun Battalion"

Similarly, a "rapid fire gun battalion" is a literal translation of a "Anti-tank gun battalion"
and a "machine cannon battalion" is a literal translation of "machine gun battalion" or "light anti-aircraft battalion"

RHS is full of this sort of thing - and also of actual Japanese terms - or abbreviations of them.
Thus we have DHD - the letters stand for the words which mean "Headquarters Detachment" - for air units -
usually transport planes. We also have Yobieki - which was long "Yobo Eki" in other mods: it means "first reserve" and it is approximately the institutional equal of our "ready reserves" - inactive formations ready to call up and serve as additional line units - upon mobilization. I have had the opportunity to live in Japan, study Japanese Imperial era military forces, and learn some of the terminology: so I am sharing it in RHS.

Curved guns are special guns used to shoot around corners. [:D]

(actually they're mortars)
