ORIGINAL: bradfordkay Okay, someone please tell me - WTF is a Curved Gun Battallion??? OK - you obviously are not fluant in Japanese! This is an attempt (the standard one) to literally translate the name of a mortar battalion. A better translation (I am said to be very good at getting the flavor in English of original terms in other languages) might be "High Angle Gun Battalion" Similarly, a "rapid fire gun battalion" is a literal translation of a "Anti-tank gun battalion" and a "machine cannon battalion" is a literal translation of "machine gun battalion" or "light anti-aircraft battalion" RHS is full of this sort of thing - and also of actual Japanese terms - or abbreviations of them. Thus we have DHD - the letters stand for the words which mean "Headquarters Detachment" - for air units - usually transport planes. We also have Yobieki - which was long "Yobo Eki" in other mods: it means "first reserve" and it is approximately the institutional equal of our "ready reserves" - inactive formations ready to call up and serve as additional line units - upon mobilization. I have had the opportunity to live in Japan, study Japanese Imperial era military forces, and learn some of the terminology: so I am sharing it in RHS.
