Oh come on guys, I am just sticking my head in here, and wondering, was ANYone thinking, when you gave this effort, a name nearly the same as your in house game notion Combat Leader: Cross of Iron?

I mean, yeah, Cross of Iron is a cool enough sounding name, conjures up all sorts of neat mental imagery of all the struggle during WW2 in Europe.

But, you already picked this name for a game. You've been using the name for how many years now?

This is more than ill advised guys. It's a ripe target for ridicule from every possible detractor under the sun.

I hope you're planning to change this to something better real soon.

I disagree. Lots of people were looking forward to CL-COI. Lots of comparisons were made to the graphics of CL and CC. The best of both would be RTS for CC-COI with the option of WEGO or pause and give orders.

Hi Les

Yes I did and I really don't see a problem.

Non-issue unless you have nothing better to do then think about stuff like that...lol...the name is fine and fits the subject matter, and to be honest all I could remember was Combat Leader not the other part.

I will say one thing though I was slightly confused at first if this was a CCIII redo/fixup or a whole new game based on the CC engine..Maybe it should be CC3:Cross of Iron?...but anyways either way just glad they are getting a new coat of paint and new life...Close Combat and X-Com took more hours of my life then anything else I have come across game wise. Will support this by buying everyone that comes out and hopefully see new ones down the road.

Only Les,

Perhaps a roman numeral tacked on the end would help the anal retentive sort the titles from one another. [:D]

CC3:Cross of Iron?...

That would accurately portray it.

Considering the Cross of Iron award predated the movie is hard to argue that this game got the idea from the movie.

At least it isnt starting out on the beaches of Normandy

[&o] Close Combat Two was full of the Iron Cross's, from what I remember of that decade.  I'd love to re-live such a great game.  Close combat 3 lacked something.  Maybe it was the poor Tank AI, or something...

When I think of a chance to Re-make a game like close-combat, I get excited.  There's no harm at all for aiming high!  You guys make that Cross of Iron!  And make a game worthy of the name.

I don't know, isn't Combat Leader dead?  Besides for people to make fun of the game name they would have to know that there was another game that already had that name and I don't think anybody other than you, Les, and two other people have any idea that that other game exists.

Oh btw, the forum link from the Cross of Iron information page tries to take me to the Combat Leader: Cross of Iron forum instead of this forum lol

I don't give a damn what the bloody thing is called. As long as its a 'decent' Close combat game, not the crap thats been released under its name of late, then I am extremely happy.

Close Combat: Shopping Mall. Call it what you want.

wmerydith -> RE: errrr umm How long did it take to think of the Name? (10/25/2006 1:14:21 AM)

I don't care what it is called either.  Although I am fond of Cross of Iron being a Squad Leader fan.

I heard the next Close Combat out will be "Close Combat : Crescendo of Doom" [:D]

But really... people are forgetful. I did not even realize Combat Leader was ever called anything other than Combat Leader. People will definitely forget a game that never was. Well most of them anyway.

That is if people like you would stop bringing it up.

And if people like me would stop resurrecting a week old dead thread that brings it up.

And so on [:-]

Of course in my opinon its' the box art that needs some help. Look at CC1-5, even RTB had better box art in my mind at least.

The new Matrix Box Art looks great to me!
