cgoddard -> Allied Convoys heading for Osaka (10/23/2006 7:18:26 PM)

Playing 1.802 as allies versus PC. Now May 1945. Have been getting increasing numbers of empty transport TFs heading for Osaka rather than back to designated homeport. Keep changing destination and it keeps changing back.

As a final straw AI is generating auto convoys to Osaka.

I will have no AKs left soon.

Has anyone else come accross this?

Are you using the 'Auto Convoy' system?
Are any areas of the map set to 'Computer Control'

If the answer to either of the above is yes then you are experiencing 'normal' problems. The first rule of this game (IMO) is do NOT trust the computer to do anything for you. It's time consuming, tedious and a lot to micromanage in the full campaign - thats why it's important to start with the smaller scenarios to master the basics.
I'm sure the experts here will explain in more detail.

I had a similar problem (one or two patches ago). After taking Iwo Jima, I saw my bombardment TF's steaming to Osaka, as if the program had initially not recognized the change in base control. I went back to a save to change their destination and replay the turn, and they behaved well. The problem did not recur.

You sunk so many of the AI's transports "he" is going to take yours. [:D]

Tallyho is correct that having the computer control areas of the map can lead to the AI issuing orders to your units. While the Auto-convoy routing system is less than ideal, I have never seen it plot a course other than to its destination or home port hex. However, it may be a bug I am not familar with.

Thanks guys

Might go back to it and see if I can stop it - it was getting me down having to keep rescuing Aks rather than getting on with the war.

Currently, I am having the same problem. Every turn the AI for Japan is taking control of an empty allied AK task force and sending it to Osaka. I have to fragment the task force into smaller single ship task forces and set a new destination for them. A day later, the AI takes another one. I am late June 1943.

I have all my regions on Human control and no ships set for auto convoy.

How do I stop it? Granted I have sunk so many Japanese ships, I don't blame the AI for trying to get some of mine.

fallout -> RE: Allied Convoys heading for Osaka (11/14/2006 8:13:55 PM)

Okay, I found out a little more about the problem, or rather what the AI is trying to do.

My AK's are being requisitioned by the Japanese to pick up the 34th Sentai in Osaka. Strangely, a few turns ago a fragment of the 34th Sentai (2 lily's) appeared in Amboina, which I hold as the allies. It seems I can transfer this fragment Sentai to any allied base, but I can't give it back to the Japanese (AI). Unfortuantely, I can't disband or withdraw it either.

The AI, is taking an allied task force to Osaka, to load the other half of this Sentai and send it to who knows where. I have lost about 3 AK's sunk and 4 damaged around Truk due to this bug.

Perhaps I should load it on an AK and send it through Japanese waters to get sunk, thus hopefully ending my problem.

The problem occured while I had patch 1.801, but is still there with 1.804.

Can you send me a copy of your save so I can check it out ? Also include game settings, password, version, etc... Are you playing stock game or using mods ?

Email to: jschaade@msn.com

Thanks

Should be on its way, thanks[&o]

Well, I wasn't able to load the Sentai on a ship, so I tried to turn off replacements for the unit as the last resort work around. It seems to have worked, but I still have a Japanese air unit til the end of the game.

cgoddard -> RE: Allied Convoys heading for Osaka (11/14/2006 11:12:24 PM)

Now you mention it I am sure my AKs were being sent to Osaka for one or another Sentai - seems like the same bug.

File on the way - thanks for looking at this when you get time.

migoodman -> RE: Allied Convoys heading for Osaka (12/11/2006 1:34:06 PM)

Any resolution on this bug?
I'm having an almost identical problem, with the AI grabbing empty transport TFs and attempting to send them to Osaka to pick up the 208th Lt Sentai, of which a fragment (in my case Lilys) exists in Amboina.
I was able to transfer bases for the Lilys to Meunere, which has no AC support but I can't get rid of the unit.

Thanks

No reply on the file I sent in and I have held off continuing with the game for now as it was getting tiresome having all my transports sunk.
