Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 3:49:10 PM)

Make Stonewall a 2 Star

Kentucky joins the Union, so be it

finally get some good stuff , 20 weapons from Europe

over the winter, have just been building up the resources, had a few requests by the Govenors to build stuff (greedy bums)

(hosp and 2 Barracks so far)

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 4:02:06 PM)

And what does hospital coverage means? Let say, what does coverage 8 means?
Thanks

was trying to find it in the rules, to explain it better, but not finding what I want

but basicly, dispostion is the morale of the troops, the lower it gets the worse the effects, and higher is better, Hosps help to raise Dispostion of the troops, would say the numbers are how well it works

it also is based on Rail and River lines, you going to be fighting a lot of battles in a area, you want at least one Hosp in the area

the % is the chance of doing something, so if you want to change from a line to a column you have a % chance of doing so (this one is a little odd, if not in sight of the enemy, it always works)

marecone -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 4:03:51 PM)

Ok. Thanks.
Send more screens. This is very interesting and helpfull. I will not need to read a manual after I am done with you [:D]

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 4:04:41 PM)

okay winter is about over, so time to start moving

I send 2 Divs north into Ohio and one into Kentucky

I expect the Union to head for Wheeling and Tenn-Miss River or Cumberland River

my Dip level with Europe is getting good !

should get my first training upgrade, the Union has gotten at least 2 upgrades so far

Gil R. -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 4:22:18 PM)

Just a reminder: as noted on the other AAR thread, those weird brown things flying the Union Jack are FILLER GRAPHICS being used from "Crown of Glory" until we can get our forts snapped into place (any day now). In case anyone wishes to disseminate screenshots from the game elsewhere on the web on some other forum, please DO NOT use images with unfinished graphics. Other than these "forts," everything you're seeing is completed.

Gil R. -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 4:31:17 PM)

Since this came up... the manual states that "the H overlay on the main map shows the rail distance of each province from the nearest Hospital building." So while '8' might seem like a lot of hospital coverage, it actually shows that the nearest hospital is quite far away.

Hospitals restore the disposition of brigades, at a clip of two per turn, and can do so for brigades that are in a different province so long as there is a rail link. Hospitals also halve the effects of disease, but only for units in the same province. (Which is why I've learned my lesson never to park the ANV in Fredericksburg in winter, since there's lots of disease and no hospital can be built there, and the army's strength will drop by 30-40% by the end of the winter. So I'm now smart enough to build up my forts so that the province can't be taken, and withdraw to a nearby city province where I've built a hospital.)

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 4:40:38 PM)

not sure if that is how it works in the game though, I think I have multi cover causeing those 8's to show up

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 5:47:13 PM)

I think the way the rules explain it may be wrong, I here is a shot later in the game

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 6:25:34 PM)

Sorry, game has gotten a little peaceful, the Union is not coming after me, and I not going after him, so we are pretty much getting ready for the next round of battles

I have been picking up some of the worthless land that is undfended

my replacement rate is real low, so not getting my units built up fast

and not really got the power to go on a seige hunt

here is a shot of the current upgrades

Gil R. -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 8:30:04 PM)

Hard Sarge, you're right about the hospitals. Actually, I also thought that those numbers reflect the amount of hospital-related coverage one gets. But when I went to the manual to get the precise info, I found that it claimed the "H" overlay reflects distance to hospitals. The manual (still in draft form) was incorrect, and you (and my initial instincts) are correct that the more hospitals you have, the better the coverage, and the higher the numbers.

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 9:48:04 PM)

Well, when you a pro about combat, you tend to know something about Hosps :)

genie144 -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 11:17:53 PM)

Simple question about the detailed battle screen.  Is there an indicator for heigth on the battlefield?  Does it play a role?

Sam

spruce -> RE: AAR II (10/24/2006 11:30:12 PM)

I have a pratical question. It seems the divisions are broken down in their brigades (when you look at the map, you'll see 3 units in 3 different hexes from the 15'th division). Now, that's cool to see how the cohesion is within your division - how it's scattered ... is that the meaning ?

indicator ? hmmm, we got heights and hills, I can't find the hot key that give terrain info right now, to try and show it

heights do play a role in combat

sorry, not sure I follow the question

the Div is the smallest container, and it can hold a number of Bdes, in the pictures, you are seeing the Bdes that are part of the Div, now Divs can be attached to a Corps, and Corps can be attached to a Army

is that the answer you are looking for ?

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 10:00:37 AM)

okay kind of been slack on some of what has been going on, mainly it looks like both sides are waiting and building up for 63

the Union Army of Kentucky has moved into Vir, but my 2 Divs from Vir moved into Kentucky

which for the last month of so, the Union has been wanting to get back into Kentucky, but my two Divs have been standing firm and  not letting them back in

my Corps in Wheeling is about ready to move, it has 4 Bdes of Cav and 2 Bdes of 12 pound Withworths

so the idea is to let the Union bang there head on my blocking force and wear down some numbers, and then as they retreat, meet my Corps from Wheeling

the trick is, I got some 20000 men in Kentucky and 43000 in my Corps, while the Army of Kentucky has over 50000

20000 on defence is a tuff nutt to crack, but 43000 on off, is not much, unless I get the right battle field

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 10:27:13 AM)

Well, as is normal

the Union held in place, and my Corps runs into a Fresh Army not a weakened, depressed mop

looks like 56000 well dug in troops, vs my 46000 troops on the march

Dorn has been sent out on a scouting mission to find and fix the enemy

Wow, this one is going to be a tuff nut to crack

here you see the AI dugouts, you will learn to hate dugouts

[image]local://upfiles/1438/17BA980725E84770800D490295A04980.jpg[/image]

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 10:41:41 AM)

here you see, I have found the flank of the Enemy line

you can see in my troops, a White horse, which means a General is attached

in the Union lines, you see a General, a Attached Cav unit, a attached Arty battery, and I am not sure what the red flag guy is  ? also with the General it looks like it may have a Cav unit and not sure what the other icon is

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 10:44:28 AM)

getting my troops into battle line

Robert E is in charge of the first Arty, I have a Lorenz Armed unit dug in and begining to open fire, across from the Union General, I have my one Withworth Armed Sharpshooter ready to dig in

so far, I out range the Enemy troops (don't away count on it, the Union also buys Lorenz and Withworths)

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 10:46:44 AM)

it may be HARD to see, but some of my troops are digging/have dug Hasty Entrenchments

the AI has been known to charge, that is why the support units are digging in and forming a line

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 11:01:01 AM)

takes time, but slowly the end of the line is being cleared and flanked, other areas are being fired on to keep them in place

[image]local://upfiles/1438/AA6C69A40EEC467F8788911E3EE56197.jpg[/image]

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 11:03:04 AM)

plus you can see some of my Entrenchments as I move forward

one hassle with that, is it can make the troops tired, if they tired, they do not fight as well

I think that part of the line is all but cleared so, try to take some of the high ground

OOPS

[image]local://upfiles/1438/0738F7A6D84E4DB9A7F6192D64419CCF.jpg[/image]

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 11:11:32 AM)

good part of the battle, I now have more unbroken troops then the Enemy does, and my morale is now better, the end of the line is flanked

Dorn has been set free, it could still be bloody now, but it is mop up time

[image]local://upfiles/1438/CAD5B944A989488A88939D9D2FC23F56.jpg[/image]

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 11:18:37 AM)

not sure if you can see it here, but look at my Cav next to the union line, it is looking pretty small right now

the Union troops turned and got off two rounds of fire before I could do anything, that is a Fried Cav unit for a while, it has lost around 1300-1500 men

but, now I got better flanking fire into his dugouts

[image]local://upfiles/1438/CCF7B70EC1504B9582A56385F08EA5DC.jpg[/image]

marecone -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 11:21:23 AM)

Nice. Keep those screens coming. One q. What level is union AI? Why they didn't counter your flanking?

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 11:27:52 AM)

charges to the line, fire into the flanks and rear, now it gets bloody, but it is too much too soon and the Union sounds the retreat

this shot don't really show it, but all the Union troops are shaking and bounce and getting ready to run away

a good win

it will count as at least as a battle, maybe it will be a decisive one

[image]local://upfiles/1438/A3495D0F6C2C455F9267A9ED67704F69.jpg[/image]

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 11:54:48 AM)

and the results of the battle

a good win, it knocked down the Union will by 2 and improved mine by 2

now to move into Cinci

I will also be able to meet one of my Divs from Kentucky to help out

I am getting 5000 replacements a turn now, so I can finally start to replace my losses

got 2 Divs headed into Ark and then north to try and draw the other Union Armys out of the area

[image]local://upfiles/1438/AB8E379CD7CF4EA8B0AF0B644A0D31C2.jpg[/image]

Hard Sarge -> RE: AAR II (10/25/2006 12:07:34 PM)

here is the start of the battle for Cinic

this is one of the Victory hexes I have talked about

FOW is on, so I do not see where the Union troops are yet, I have to find them

this map has 3 VH, but I plan on defeating the Troops and not the hexes, so my battle plan is to destory the Union Army
