It's od....I will be playing as late war Americans or some other force that SHOULD be able to purchase CAS of some type, and no strike aircraft are availble. Any idea why this would be happening.

And historical troop rarirty is turned off.

Check what the weather and visibility settings are.  If you have short visibility say less than 16 hexes aircraft are less available.  Then also the only way you can be sure you get aircraft is to change the settings on aircraft in the preferences for computer generated battles.  If it is in a campaign there is a routine the AI goes through for aircraft availability.  Then in scenario's the designer may not have included aircraft on purpose.

Ah, alright. Thanks! :)

I have been playing for a month now and the option to purchase CAS has only been afforded to me twice. It seems the AI is given every chance to purchase air assets but I am stuck with arty for support. The enemy CAS is very effective and I find myself spending 200 points or more on ADA weapons that have a slim chance of shooting them down. The times that I was able to purchase air support, it deviated off the flight path and attacked my units in broad daylight and no smoke. The arty support that is effective is 105 and above, anything less might cause disruption but never gets confirmed kills. I am sure in France if a German platoon came under fire from a battalion of 75mm guns, the effect would be more that pinning them. On the other hand, if my Soldiers come under fire from enemy 60mm mortar fire, I take losses. I am sure in the wargame world of things this is logical, but in my world, I am at a loss.

I set my preferences to a 3 air sections a side play in normal campaigning, but first what version are u playing? and what times of the day where your battles.
The game portrays the fact that in WW2 there were no real night flying CAS untill the very end of the war, and that was more a pre determined static area effecting "strikes without visable individual targets",but more area suppression of lines of retreat, or plotted attacks where they would usually use medium bombers,like off board heavy Artillary,to soften fortifications and known enemy concentrations. The game never offers air assets at night,in poor vis weather, or when it deems that your carriers have moved out of battles local.{PTO}

Riun T

I fully understand what you mean by no real dedicated CAS until late in the war. My only complaint would be if the enemy AI is afforded the opportunity to purchase air assets and use them, so should I. I am given the opportunity to use my airborne/gliderborne troops no matter what the current conditions of the battle field are and the restraints on those operations were stricter than air-to-ground support. I am currently playing a long campaign in the ETO as the Americans (July '44 til March '45) and have only had one chane to purchase strike aircraft in ten games. Seems like a flaw in the game compared to light/weather conditions.

July of 44 puts u right after the d-day landings and "historically" the Allies ruled the skies over france SOOOO wheres your TYPHOONS???? ALL your prefs set for AIr or did u go with defaults??are they middle of the day timed battles?? what version are u playin????[8|]
I would delete the PRF file, and reset all relivent preferences before playin the next battle to see if its" stuck" cause somethin ain't right with that??

If the allies did not control the skies over France in early '44, the D-Day invasion would not have happened in June. For every target hit in the Normandy area in '44, 5 other targets were hit elsewhere. To answer your questions: I have tweaked the pref screen in an attempt to get airpower. Instead of "XXX" for air craft, I have put it 25. Out of the 10 battles I have played more than half have been during daylight hours. I will have to wait until I get home to answer your question about the version number.

With these settings, it still amazes me that the Germans strafe me on a regular basis.

Riun T -> RE: Support Aircraft (11/9/2006 6:25:55 PM)

I think throwing the AIR SECTIONS right up to 25 is a bit much but I also don't have any ideas as to why its doing that to u either so good luck?? and keep us posted

RERomine -> RE: Support Aircraft (11/11/2006 1:43:26 AM)

Just as a follow-up on this is air support seems like it can be available in any visibility, at any time. Some of my tanks just got attacked by a jug at 3am during a thunderstorm. Visibility is 4. It's August, 1943.
