Tankerace -> 1.3 Prev #2 or... "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines." (10/31/2006 5:08:16 AM)

A few more screens. No there is no ETA. This patch is... well... freaking huge. 2 full new navies, new ships for all the rest, redone ship graphics, landing barges, landing boats, sampans.... not to mention the grand total of WPO aircraft is now 219 different types (versus about 80 at release).

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/BlackBurnDart.jpg[/image]
The Blackburn Dart, a British carrier torpedo bomber of the mid-late 1920s. Much better replacement for the aged Cuckoo.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/BlackburnRipon.jpg[/image]
The Blackburn Ripon Mk II, another British Carrier Torpedo Bomber.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/BulldogIIA.jpg[/image]
The British Bristol Bulldog, one of the many fighter types produced in the later 1920s. Replaced by the Gauntlet (WPO has 4 versions, the II, IIA, IVA, and J.S.S.F export version for Japan.). For the Japanese (who again receive a model), it is essentially the precursor to the A1N.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/CurtissPN12.jpg[/image]
Curtiss PN-12, one of the many USN flying boats of the era.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/DouglasO2MC4.jpg[/image]
Export model of the Douglas O2 (in game for the USAAS/USAAF) as used by Chinese Nationalist Forces in the 1920s.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/EberhartSE5e.jpg[/image]
Eberhart SE-5E, an American liscence produced version of the RAF SE5a. Used in the early 1920s as a frontline fighter/scout, and later as a training machine.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/ThomasMorseMB3a.jpg[/image]
Thomas Morse MB3a, essentially an American Copy (with a different engine) of the Spad 13 (also now in WPO). Used throughout the early 1920s. The largest claim to faim of the aircraft was its use for the movie Wings. MB3 and MB3a versions are modeled.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/WapitiMkII.jpg[/image]
The Westland Wapiti Mk II, one of the many new British light bombers.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/KeystoneLB7.jpg[/image]
The Keystone LB-7, one of the many new American bombers in the game. This is just one of the line of a series of bombers stretching from the Huff-Daland XB-1 to the B-2 Condor.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/Hei2.jpg[/image]
Japanese Hei 2 fighter. Historically only one was acquired, it is in reality a French Spad XX. However, for gameplay, it is possible the Japanese could have acquired a liscence to built them.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/Ko4.jpg[/image]
Japanese Ko-3 a Nieuport 24 produced after WWI in Japan. THe Ko-3b shown has a Vickers and a Lewis gun, the Ko-3a has only the one Vickers. The Ko-4 is also modeled, which is a Nieuport-Delage NiD29.

[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/Tankerace/Mitsubish1MT1N.jpg[/image]
Mitsubishi 1MT1N, the first Japanese plane ever to be designed to be used aboard a carrier. However, it was a miserable failure. It was slow, unmaneuverable, had a low range, and as a triplane it would have drastically reduced storage aboard the Hosho. It was adopted in 1921, and withdrawn in 1923 before the Hosho was ever put in service, never being used in its intended role.

Also, on the Japanese planes... note the engines. I wonder what that could mean [;)]

looks amazing!

also just so you know - i'm guessing this MIGHT be a mistake - in the 1926 super dreadnought scen all allied transports are set to upgrade on 1/23 so they all get a big gun upgrade right at the start. currently playing as the allies i certainly don't mind, but i would assume you likely intend for them to be upgraded on 1/27? sounds a little odd for the allies to have all these barrels lying around before a war was even expected...

landing barges, landing boats, sampans....

Are those just database additions or is it something that the game generates for a player? Would pre-1.3 mods have those once the game is upgraded to 1.3?

Those are OOB updates. Pre 1.3 mods would have to have them added, which would be a time consuming process if using the stock editor. There are some 6 or 7 different kinds IIRC (I'm away from my home/work PC right now), 2 Japanese landing craft types, a sampan class, and 3 or 4 U.S. style landing boats and artillery lighters. Over 1,000 boats in all. Plus (at least for the U.S) some 250 Coast Guard patrol craft.

The vessels are in the OOB, but unless on the map at start are "generated" or "created" in game by using supply loaded in transport TFs, just like in WitP.

Is there an alternative? ^_^

What's that?

Hm... how does WitP do that?

There are some non stock WitP editors that might work. I just use the regular editor though.

Lighters are small boats, and artillery lighters were small landing type boats that weren't particular lsuccesful, designed to transport medium and small guns and other infantry support weapons from ship to shore.

Hm... how does WitP do that?

When you have PT boats or barges available, if you create a transport TF, load it with supply, and then (in the task force window, as if you clicked on the TF on the map) click on "Create Barges" or "Create PT Boats", then a number of PT boats/Barges will be"created" based on the number of said boats available (i.e. those that have arrived in the pool w/in the OOB), number of TF Ops points, and amount of supply present in the TF.

Please don't get me wrong. I love game candy. I especially look forward to the ship candy in the French fleet, but the sheer number of aircraft choices is making my gums ache. There are so many much more basic factors in the game that thoroughly confuse me, that adding more aircraft types make me giggle.

What I need more than yet another Blasted Bullups or aF lying Typewriter Floatfigher variant is a grognard DNA injection that can get me over the hump in basic game understanding.... (i.e. A 1000 page tutorial on supplying your base for the terminal neophyte...) [&o]

I'll see what I can do.... though maybe not 1,000 pages [:D]

1.3 is progressing slowly. Mainly a spare time kind of thing. I'll see though if I can't knock up a tutorial, or at the very least modify the WitP tutorial to WPO standards.

Hey Tanker

any update on how this patch is comming along, im holding off starting a new game of WPO waiting for it :-). Im especially interested in the addition of the extra planes. While i realsie the focus of this mod is battleships battles. the tiem period was very interesting from the avaition point of view a well, ie just what would aircraft bring to the modern navy and how would they affect strategy.

Even a prepatch that i can use to add all the planes in for my own use would be fantastic.

Have you added the french CV bearn ? and the submarine Surcouf <sp?>?

thanks
Paul

No update yet. Thanks to other projects I've only had spare time to work on 1.3, so needless to say it isn't coming along quickly. I wouldn't wait to start a new game, you could probably get one half way finished or more by the time 1.3 does come out.

Ironically, the planes are done, as is the OOB. The art for the dozens of new classes is the bottleneck. I'd like to see something by mid December, but no promises. I wouldn't look for it much before January, because with a break in classes (only one more year before I get the degree!) I should be able to get a substantial part done.

As to the nitty gritty, Bearn is in as a CV while the rest of her class are Normandie class battleships. Surcouf is not in, because though she was launched in 1929 she didn't enter service until May 3, 1934, three years too late for WPO.

Akos Gergely -> RE: 1.3 Prev #2 or... "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines." (12/20/2006 9:32:47 PM)

Ask Fremen and TOMLABEL to help with the art files, I think they would gladly help ;-)

Cheers

Terminus -> RE: 1.3 Prev #2 or... "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines." (12/20/2006 10:08:21 PM)

I assume you've read that 1.3 has been cancelled?

Akos Gergely -> RE: 1.3 Prev #2 or... "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines." (12/20/2006 10:16:28 PM)

Yep, sorry, just saw after I posted it. Still there are a lot of ship art that can be improved ;-) !

Tankerace -> RE: 1.3 Prev #2 or... "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines." (12/21/2006 2:51:13 AM)

I wouldn't say cancelled.... just put on hold perpetually. As in it might pop up next year sometime.

Still, we'll see what happens. Most of the testers have gone, so I'm going to hope they appear after the first of the year, which gives me time to do the 1929 production scenario.

Right now, the holidays are keeping me from getting much heavy work done on WPO.

Jorm -> RE: 1.3 Prev #2 or... "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines." (10/9/2007 6:00:20 AM)

Hi All

Did tanker ever pass on this project or does it exist in any usable form. Im very keen on the additions of the planes to the database?. I know graphics was holding things up at one stage at least. I'd be keen to still get this database addition even using a general ship/plane holding graphic.

I've just upgraded my PC and now get much faster turnaround on turns so im keen to start a new WPO campaign, but would like to add these plans in?.

cheers
Paul

Terminus -> RE: 1.3 Prev #2 or... "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines." (10/10/2007 12:07:48 AM)

Tanker is VERY busy at the moment...

hueglin -> RE: 1.3 Prev #2 or... "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines." (10/10/2007 12:54:17 AM)

I agree. It would be nice to get what has been done and have a look at it. I'm sure Tankerace would like to be able to finish it himself, but it seems a shame for all of that work to sit unused because he has other commitments.
