v 1.384

CPU v CPU game

Washington v. Boston

Washington is using NML's College1 playbook. Boston is using NML's Pro 1 playbook.

Washington has the ball. The QB pitches the ball to the HB and the HB is in the clear; or so it seems. The ball carrier is run down and hit from behind at about the five yard line. He loses the ball and it flies into the endzone. (This was graphically portrayed beautifully.) A Boston defender went into the endzone and picked it up.

First, the game immediately declared it to be a touchdown for Boston. If anything it should've been a touch back. After touchdown was called, the Boston defender, now carrying the ball, ran straight down the middle of the field, all the way back to the other endzone. No other player for either team ran after him or made any attempt to tackle him.

Second, no ruling touchback or otherwise should've been given until the Boston defender downed the ball, was tackled, forced out of bounds or legitimately scored a touchdown.

Okay, this seems like a fairly rare event because this never happened during the games played in private beta. The fact the ball was fumbled and bounced back into the endzone I mean.

The reason that the player got up and ran to the endzone is because that's what technically happens after every score. Every time a TD is scored, the scoring player moves to the centre of the endzone. It looked weird in this case because the 'score' happened in the correct endzone, but then I flipped the world around on a possession change, and the player wound up having to run to the centre of the other endzone.

This sounds like a reasonably straightforward fix. It's just another use case in the procedures for processing fumbles.

Okay, it sounds like you have a handle on it. But just to clarify, the ball bounced forward into the endzone. The Washington player was about to score a touchdown when the Boston defender hit him and caused him to fumble. If Washington had recovered it in the endzone it would have been a touchdown. But, since Boston recovered the ball, it should have been called a touchback.

Also note that if Washington fumbled, and the ball went through the endzone and out of bounds, it is still a touch back.

Thank you for the report Dark Horse.

So just to confirm.

The ball was fumbled forward and into the defenders endzone. Not backward and into the offenses endzone.
