Riun T -> Explain "the worst " and best!! (11/6/2006 3:06:57 AM)

I'm just stupified by only haveing 10 casualties for the FONDOUK battle which was a Meeting engagement!!,and wanted to hear some other players bests and worst fight results. My best to date was a defend of 0 casualties,and a delay of 4 casualties.
MY worst has been a complete HQ killed on turn 3 of an old British campaign by a straff and bombing run by a ME-110.[X(][8|]
AND "NO" that defend was not a river crossing!!

I have never once managed a 0 casualty battle. In ANY strategy game, much less one as difficult as SPWaW. I had an assault, more a rout really, as the Germans vs Poland. I suffered 13 casualties. There was a delay in North Africa against the British that ended with only 7 casualties on turn 3. The one River defense I fought I quit halfway through. So I didn't get a casualty report. I don't recall any significant casualties in that one either.

Worst was actually posted as an AAR. I had two M4 Shermans, two or three depleted squads of US Army Rangers, and my HQ left after repeated attacks by aircraft. I managed to withdrawl, pulling what was left back using those two damaged Shermans as ferries.

Hello...

Long campaign. Assualt. All units (including core) on single bridge, at start line. Before turn one, friendly air strike hits bridge. Entire force destroyed.

Sad...

Don't remember the losses I took but they were very high playing against the japs on a IWO landing. That battle was a fight from the begining to the end.[:(]

Never a good idea to put ALL your eggs in one basket. And NEVER a good idea to put starting troops on a bridge.

That's classic, especially since it was friendly fire. I don't stop units on bridges. Gotta cross them, but if I can't get across, the unit doesn't go on it.

Worst I had I lost about 200 men and 22 "tanks". It was an assault against the British in a North African sandstorm. Visibilty was 4. I only spotted the British tanks when they fired and it was well within their lethal range. To make it worse, most of the British tanks were Grants, which match up pretty well against the Mk-IVf2(s). The Grants can kill a Mk-IVf2(s) at that range with either the 37mm turret gun or the 75mm sponson gun (which acts like it's on the turret) and they get to use BOTH! Most of the "tanks" I lost were armored cars. I eventually had to resort to walking my artillery in front of my advance to lessen the chances of encountering a lively Grant. Infantry had to ride because they could only move 1 hex per turn in the sandstorm. Tanks only moved 3 hexes. That turned into a marathon battle compared to what I'm use to.

I've had some 0 loss defends, but nothing that I would consider a fair fight. Had a nice advance where I took out 146 British tanks and only lost 2 and a couple dozen men. But that fight wasn't very fair either. Still North Africa. Visibility 30. My core had recently replaced 30 Mk-IVf infantry support tanks with Tigers. It was my first chance to use the Tigers in a perfect environment with them. I left 34 Mk-IVf2(s)s and 20 StuG-IIIgs at home and just advanced with the Tigers and two companies of SS infantry. Most of the British tanks were spotted by the infantry at long range and the Tigers just popped them as they advanced. Of the two Tigers I lost, one was to a P-39 and the other moved into a ravine two hexes away from a Sherman which killed it with a side shot. My air defense became ineffective because of all the desert dust kicked up during the advance. Did get five P-39s, but eventually the trailing flak units couldn't see much through the dust and smoke. Certainly couldn't have them up front. Too many British tanks out there. The few that shot later in the game missed their targets.
