our_kid123uk -> CCII Re-release questions. (11/6/2006 7:58:51 PM)

Im fairly new to close combat after discovering a review then demo off gamespot. At fist i didnt like the games that much as i thought the action was to slow paced. Once i got into it more and thought more tactically i began to love the game for how it is meant to be played.
My favourite out of the series is CCII. The units seem to move alittle quicker when ordered to 'move fast' (perhaphs because of smaller maps?) and the blue colour of bullets and the red colour indicationg enemy fire.
The only part i REALLY wish this game had was waypoints. Alot of the time i wanted to move nits around things but they would go directly there instead. Can you tell me if the re-release of CCII will be pretty much kept the same as the original with the addition of waypoints and upgraded A.I. and Maps or not. Will the difference in coloured blue and red bullets remain aswell as i really like that feature as its quick to detect where enimies are.

Thanks for looking, i really cant wait to play them. From the screen shots ive seen the units seem to get into a better formation once inside buildings but i may be mistaken.

Andy.

Andy, as we have no schedule yet for the re-release of CC2, it's difficult to reply in particular.  Waypoints are a feature from CC3 onwards and of course will be retained in CoI.

[:)] I think we can relate to that...

Team deployment in *detail* is controlled by the AI, and infantry will look for suitable cover depending on their situation.  As these are Squad level games/sims, you do not have individual control as in FPS type games, but that should not detract from the game play.  Because it is the computer that manages these things, you have to put up with the rough and the smooth, but the fact that these games have lasted a decade, still have a strong and dedicated following, AND are continuing to be upgraded and developed demonstrates the qualities inherent with these productions.  If you like tactical sims, then you should get some serious enjoyment (including the frustrations [;)]) from playing them.  I hope you will not be dissapointed.

Fanstasic.....

Sometimes i just look for perfection. Stupid really. Cannt wait to play them!!!!

Dont suppose anyone knows if there is a MOD i can use to play CCII with waypoints until CoI is released?

Not for CC2, not that I know of anyway. Somebody did a CC2 mod for CC5 (i.e all the CC2 maps, British and Polish voices etc), but I assume that plays like CC5 rather than CC2.

Thanks for the quick response :)

Ill have to wait and see if the remake of CC2 by Matrix will include waypoints. I love CC2 plays, it just seems slightly faster than the ohters to me.

As I mentioned on the CSO Forums, adding waypoint functionality to CC2 would involve some serious code changes.  When we start reviewing the re-release of CC2, we will include this possibility as I do think it would be a good feature to have.

Many Thanks.....

:( ...I was kind of hoping you guys had already done some work on the CC2 re-release so there wouldn't be a long wait for each re-release...makes something like a bundle pack a very long way off then...not to mention a possible CC6

Beeblebrox -> RE: CCII Re-release questions. (11/6/2006 11:15:37 PM)

I am afraid this industry seems to be full of guff and hot air.  It's a cross we have to bear.  Stick most of them in a serious industry like oil and gas, and they wouldn't last 10 minutes...

I have sympathy with your frustration.  Fortunately, if the intent is serious enough, something usually transpires, though not necessarilly in every particular, and you have to take all advance pronouncements (especially with regard to timing) with a large pinch of salt.  That's just my own experience though...

I missed the ghosts in the building where enemy who were barely seen were located.  That cool feature ended in cc1.
