I've repeatedly found that the AI's strategy and tactics for Japan's conduct of naval warfare are illogical and lead to an easy WA victory over Japan. In particular, the AI seems to fail to recognize the potential danger of carrier air fleet attacks by the WA on its next game turn. Is there a way to increase the difficulty level of the AI in terms of its strategy and tactics, as opposed to simply giving the AI controlled powers advantages in supply, movement capacity and combat results? It seems to me that the true test of the AI in any game is its ability to compete on a level playing field. I'd been hoping to see a major improvement in the AI's strategy and tactics in Pacific naval warfare over the WAW game. Was any work done in this area for AWD? 32shaw

Yes, quite a lot of work was done on AWD. Still, a human can outsmart the AI any day of the week.
So, if you feel you are a good player you should always play on HARD and preferably use the campaigns that favor the AI if you start in 1939.
Playing on normal against the AI is just to learn the game.

Sure, it would be cool if the AI was playing as well as a veteran human - but it aint gonna happen.

Or play PBEMs! [:)]
It's really easy to set up and a hell of a lot more fun than playing against the AI.
