goodwoodrw -> Old game Remakes (11/14/2006 2:23:53 AM)

I'm just a bit bored, so I thought I'd throw my 2 bobs worth into the ring. There seems to be a couple of old games being recyled at the moment. I would love to see Actions station revived, it would a great game with a few touch ups. Even on my old amiga and with ega graphics it was great fun trying to dodge long lances and getting out of searchlights beams with star shells bursting above yours vessels. not many people talk about this naval sim, but I reckon its one of the all time greats. Apart from my amiga copy it was the first PC game I bought. [:)]

Never heard of that game, or at least I don't remember it. Had a great game for the C64/128 though called Destroyer. I think it was by Epix. It was one of my favorite Commodore Games.

Vyshka -> RE: Old game Remakes (11/15/2006 7:05:53 AM)

Yep Destroyer was an Epyx game. You could man different stations on the ship.

Sadly I never got a chance to play Action Stations, but I remember the ads for it in CGW, back when CGW was a really good magazine run by Johnny Wilson.

Kuokkanen -> RE: Old game Remakes (11/15/2006 12:25:59 PM)

Just couple weeks ago I played (again) Asteroids made by Psygnosis some 10 years ago. It's nice game to play. Some progress has definitely been made since first version from year 1979 [X(]

Same goes to Lander: new 3d version with 3 axis stick + throttle... it can't be described, you have to try it yourself [;)]

Neverwinter Nights from year 2002. I have to admit I haven't played original version from 1980's, but I have gave try to other games with similar interface, and let's face it: computer RPG games of this millennia are definitely better than what they were 20 years ago.

Some remakes of Paradroid are just as fun as original version on Commodore 64 [:D]

War in the Pacific is definitely remake of Pacific War, but I believe there are other more qualified people to comment about this subject.

Action Stations was a great game. Spent many hours on it. Still have the original manual & the 5.25" floppy disks. [sm=00000116.gif]

I whouldnt mind having a remake of Imperialism 1 game from SSI.To be more precise i certainly not going to object SSI start working again on ANYTHING.
The general series/imperialism 1(and 2 thought not as good as the first) and many more were real gems.
Too bad that it will probably be only a dream.[:(]

I did try a game from Paradox resumbling Imp.1 but it was a big dissapointment for me.

Ahh nothing is like the original.Probably the game the has cost me more hours that all the others together.[&o]

No, you're right, we need some old titles to be resurrected. 1990's had some great titles and concepts. Now just to marry those with 2000's programming techology and we could have some really nice games.

I may be missing the point, but aren't we pretty much up to our ears already in old titles being resurrected? TAOW, Harpoon, Campaign Series, BoB/BtR, Age of Sail, Battleground series, Carriers at War and Close Combat? How many more do we need? Apart from Age of Rifles, obviously. [;)]

ravinhood -> RE: Old game Remakes (11/17/2006 5:57:09 AM)

Centurion Defender of Rome. ;)

Sarge -> RE: Old game Remakes (11/17/2006 6:03:49 AM)

Kuokkanen -> RE: Old game Remakes (11/17/2006 8:50:35 PM)

Battlezone please, but leave for Bob's sake, LEAVE RTS STYLE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT OUT OF IT!

ShermanM4 -> RE: Old game Remakes (11/18/2006 12:21:14 AM)

I've always wanted to see BH 1942, Their Finest Hour: Battle of Britain, and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe slightly touched up and updated graphics. The SWotL campaign function was one of the best I have ever seen. It would be nice to see air craft that could fire six bullets at once instead of two[:D] I think that was one of the minor details they could not work out at the time. Even playing the original would not be bad, but I have never been able to get it to work on XP. Don't get me started on Secret Weapons Over Normandy [:-] lame in my imho

Jevhaddah -> RE: Old game Remakes (11/18/2006 12:28:00 AM)

I was playing Battlezone on my Xbox today... sigh... I am not as Quick on the button as I was in me yoof [:D]

Centurion Defender of Rome is on my old 486 and I have various versions of Dungeonmaster installed here and there, I know its not a wargame but its fun.

sigh.... the good old days, I am sooo thankful I can only rember the good bits [;)]

Cheers

Well we haven't had a remake of the aviation strategy games for a while. Especially Achtung Spitfire!. What a gem of a 2D game. It excelled in squadron pilot management. You could actually see your pilots improve in abilities, but attrition and fatigue would also factor in against you too. Imagine that with modern graphics and cut scenes, sound and so forth.

Peter Fisla -> RE: Old game Remakes (11/19/2006 5:11:31 PM)

I would like to see the two first XCOM games re-released again using higher resolution.

LitFuel -> RE: Old game Remakes (11/19/2006 6:20:25 PM)

I would like to see Jeff Wayne's War of The Worlds updated for XP ..that was a fun game, I liked setting up defenses, and  it had great atmosphere.

ravinhood -> RE: Old game Remakes (11/19/2006 8:13:21 PM)

I would like to see Milton Bradley's Dogfight, Broadsides and Battle-Cry come to the computer. ;)

Yeah, what ever happened to Johnny Wilson. He was a great guy and a great Rod Stewart impersonater.
