XCom -> 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/26/2006 11:54:17 PM)

I've created a quick and simple multiplayer league using 1.41 and uploaded it to my server. Anyone interested in helping out with this test can download the compressed league files here

http://www.xibl.net/1.41%20Test/psa.zip

Remember to rename the file psa.7z after download and decompress using 7z or WinRar. Load it up and submit a draft profile for one of the four teams and let's see how it goes from there.

Please post anything you do here so we have a full trail of actions. Thanks to Shaun for all his work trying to get multiplayer to function correctly!

URett -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/27/2006 12:45:01 AM)

I downloaded, logged in as Tucson, submitted a draft profile, changes contact info and GM tendencies. So far no problems. Did my changes upload ok?

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/27/2006 1:35:29 AM)

Looks like everything came over without a problem. I've uploaded a new copy of the league file with URett's changes for any others that would like to join the test.

Deltadog -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/27/2006 2:30:15 AM)

I downloaded your file and logged in as Hartford.  I submitted a draft profile and it seemed to upload with no problem.  In addition, I opened the files logging in as each and every team and did not get the error message we were seeing yesterday.

You indicate that you uploaded a new copy of the league file with URett's changes.  When I connected, I did not get a message stating that the commissioner had uploaded a new version of the league files and there was no additional download.  It may be that the game does not recognize a new version until there is a greater change such as a draft?

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/27/2006 2:54:28 AM)

Deltadog, probably because I uploaded the changes before you downloaded your file...so to the game there was no new file uploaded to the server. Check Tucson's contact information and you should at least see URett's name as proof his changes came through on the new league file.

Deltadog -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/27/2006 2:58:43 AM)

You are correct.  The file I downloaded does show Urett in Tuscan's profile.

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/27/2006 4:08:11 AM)

Cool. Looks like both draft profiles went through correctly. Maybe we will wait for one more person to join the test and then I will run the draft. The real test will come after that when we need to transfer roster changes.

wlfcards -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/27/2006 11:32:34 PM)

I tried to do Honolulu. Did you get it?

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 4:51:35 AM)

Yep, got the draft profile and your changes to the contact section. So far so good. I will create a profile for Providence and then will run the draft tonight. Will update here after the draft is complete and the new file has been uploaded to the server.

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 5:09:36 AM)

Okay, the draft is run and a new file has been uploaded to the server. Please load up the league and download the new file. Then make a few changes to your team and submit them. Post here when you have done this. Thanks.

Deltadog -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 5:51:17 AM)

I started the game and opened the test league logging on as Hartford.  Next I was advised that a new version had been posted by the Commissioner.  The new version of the league files downloaded in about 1 minute.  I made roster changes and proceeded to upload the changed file to the server.  I go no error messages and when finished the game advised that the roster moves had been uploaded.  If the changes are there, all worked as smooth as possible.

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 6:07:16 AM)

The game downloaded your roster moves smoothly and without incident. So far I like what I see!

wlfcards -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 7:04:35 AM)

Have uploaded changes. So far, so good.

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 7:34:51 AM)

Honolulu changes came through loud and clear! This includes all the releases and signings that you did, wlfcards. I'm almost ready to deem 1.41 a multiplayer success!

I've uploaded a new copy of the league file to the server which contains the changes made by Deltadog and wlfcards.

wlfcards -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 8:51:37 AM)

When I try to sign William Lucas C I am told he is unavailable, but do not see him on any
other roster.

I could not find the report showing the draft. At first glance, I am not sure how good a job the AI did in following the instructions.

URett -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 10:26:00 AM)

Everything went smoothly for me as well.

Deltadog -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 7:13:03 PM)

I brought up the game and was again told that a newer version of the league files were available.  Once again, it downloaded in about 1 minute with no problem.

I don't think that the issues mentioned by wlfcards pertain to the multiplayer aspect of the game.  These could be issues that need to be addressed, but our major concern in this test is the operation of the remote aspects of the game.  I am not objecting to his mentioning these problems, but feel that they would be an issue whether the league is multiplayer or single player and are not a sign of weakness in the multiplayer aspect of the game.

Since these issues have been observed, I will comment on my observations.  When I set up the draft profile for Hardford, I did not go into the detail that I might have had this been other than a test.  I selected the last option for all rounds of the draft.  While I cannot recall the exact term, the game used, basically the instruction was foir the A-1 to rely primarily on experience.  A list of draftees can be found by opening the team management page and selecting the transaction tab.  There may be other reports,  but having found this I did not look further. The first 60 entries (scroll down to bottom) show draft choices and those a the top show those called up and placed in the major league roster.  In the case of Hardford every player is over 30 years old.  This would appear to indicate that the A-1 did follow the only instruction that I gave it and that was to draft based on experience.

I searched for william Lucas in the player list and he is indeed shown as a Free Agent and is not on any teams roster.  I tried to sign him and got the following message, "This player has been signed by another team since you last downloaded the association (or there was a problem verifying his availability)  You may not sign this player at the present time. Please try signing another player."
I attempted to sign the next catcher on the list, William Rice and was allowed to do so.  I then placed him in my line up and released a catcher who was there originally.  Originally, I had thought that perhaps, at this stage we were not allowed to sign free agents, but this is clearly not the c

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 7:30:12 PM)

Okay, guys...I had a few minutes before work to load up the game and it downloaded the changes from Tucson and Hartford. I've uploaded a new copy of the association to the server.

I also tried to sign C William Lucas and got the same error. I have no idea what is up with him. As far as I can tell no team has signed him, so he is in limbo. Maybe Shaun can take a look if he has a chance.

Deltadog -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 8:59:25 PM)

Downloaded the new league files without a problem.  This is the third time a new file version has been downloaded successfully.  Not that any change in William Lucas status was expected, I attempted to sign him again with the same results.  No change made and no upload attempted this time.

wlfcards -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 10:13:36 PM)

Downloaded fine.

Shaun - the draft profiles include parameters for Starters (i.e. stuff) and Relievers. For purposes of implementing these parameters is a Middlle Reliever/Spot Starter a starter, reliever or fall through the cracks?

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 10:58:03 PM)

Well, shall we call this test a success or should we go a little further into a season?

URett -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 11:10:01 PM)

I'd say we call it unless someone can think of something else we might test by going further. Thanks for hosting the test.

wlfcards -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/28/2006 11:23:25 PM)

I would suggest

(1) simming a week of games to see if it works;
(2) approving a trade

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/29/2006 12:00:16 AM)

No problem, we can sim a week of games. If you want to make any lineup changes get them in before 10PM ET tonight and then I will sim a week.

As for trades, I have found in a previous test that only the Commissioner can input trades in a multiplayer league. If an owner tries to enter a trade you will get an error saying only the Commissioner can make trades. So, there is really nothing to test with that.

Deltadog -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/29/2006 1:30:18 AM)

After you sim the first weeks games, if the limbo player still cannot be signed, I suggest that you send the files to Shaun and see if he can determine why.  Obviously for this league it does not matter, but whatever the problem is it might happen again in another league where it does matter.

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/29/2006 6:30:02 AM)

Okay, I simmed one week of games and uploaded the new file to the server.

wlfcards -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/29/2006 8:23:12 AM)

Downloaded fine.  William Lucas is now available.

legendsport2k -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/29/2006 1:53:03 PM)

Sorry I didn't get involved in this test, but it's very nice to see that it appears that multiplayer is working now.

XCom -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/29/2006 5:47:52 PM)

Looks like everything worked as planned! I'm very excited to have multiplayer back with all of the recent advances in place. Looking forward to the final release now.[sm=00000280.gif]

Thanks to URett, Deltadog, and wlfcards for helping out with this test.

Just as an aside...

As many of you know I am currently doing testing in preparation for launching an online multiplayer league shortly. I already have a number of owners from my old BBPro league ready to play, but would be happy to have others join us as well. It will be a fictional league with a financial system (either internal or external) and the overall number of teams depends on the number of owners I can get. [;)] If you are interested in competing against other humans instead of the AI all the time, this is a great way to do it.

Either PM me here or e-mail me at commish@xibl.net if you would be interested.

Downloaded fine.  William Lucas is now available.

Deltadog -> RE: 1.41 Multiplayer Test (11/29/2006 5:48:42 PM)

Downloaded file with out a problem.  Made on roster change and uploaded apparently successful.

Unlike Wlfcards observation, when I tried to sign William Lucas, I got the same message as before.  As far as I can tell, other than this one issue, this test was a success.  It does not make sense that one of us can sign Lucas and the other cannot.  Suggest you send the file to Shaun to see what the explanation might be.
