wargameplayer -> help with tcpip game (12/5/2006 8:49:39 AM)

So my friend is having some trouble (which means I am having some trouble too) since we are doing a tcpip game.

When he clicks host game. no new box appears that allows him to continue the host process.

When I try and host a game. the ip takes my routers ID--not my actual IP.
any ideas what might be causing my friends problem. I dont know if my router problem is a short stopper either since we have to get his hosting/joining game feature working.

I do know there can be issues with firewalls and routers. Usually you have to set your router to leave open a hole in your firewall so you can host a game. It's usually much easier to join a game than to host one. When you host, you do need to be entering in the IP address from the outside world as opposed to the 192.168.x.x number your router uses for your internal network. That's about as far as my knowledge goes.

You can find your "real IP" for exmaple here: www.ipaddressworld.com *

*note that we do not take any responsibility for 3rd party links outside of www.matrixgames.com

Well, I've done that:
Opened the firewall completely
found my "real IP address"

and still it did not work.

What exactly is going on here?

yeah it's weird not a lot of info on this.

Basically. I got my real ip. But you can't really plug in it--i just told it to my buddy to have him try to connect.
but he can't seem to even get the first dialog box to appear even if he is hosting. weird...

I went throgh the whole--get rid of all your firewalls blah blah blah but no impact.
pbem games are okay but id really like to try it on the same comp

I wish I knew what was going on. The host player doesn't enter their IP address, but of course they have to know their current public ip address so they can tell everyone else. If you have a way to do it, you might try networking two computers via a LAN to see if you can at least connect that way as that will avoid the firewall issues and it might tell you if that is the problem.
