Fouts -> Easy mode (12/7/2006 4:46:49 AM)

I started a 1980 redraft league and let the computer run the draft. Even with letting the computer teams grab the FA's and holding back from trading, we have won 105 and 104 games each of the first two years (led by Mattingly, Brunansky and Gaetti). Year three has us at 53-23, and Frank Tanana just went to 14-0 with a no-hitter over Mike Schmidt and the Giants.

I think I make better in-game decisions than the computer (I play out all my games), and the computer routinely plays tired/slightly injured players.

This is a great game, but I think I'm going back to just simming to give the computer a chance to compete.

Have you adjusted your finances? I was pretty much cleaning up like you were and then adjusted my finances so that my team's budget was the lowest in the league by a decent sized margin and then went to work! It really makes it hard to keep a dynasty going when you can't afford to resign a lot of players. My next two season were under .500! but this year I'm back in the running for a playoff spot, but nothing close to guaranteed.

There are also some suggested house rules in this thread:  http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1295025

Yeah, if you look at what's happened to long-time PureSim veteran URett, picking a fairly brutal selection of the suggestions in that thread - it took him five seasons to get out of the cellar, eight seasons to win his first fivision title, and thirteen seasons to win the World Series, and after that he's had a number of right-around-.500 seasons

Over 21 seasons, he's hit
- 5 division titles (plus one tied, but lost tiebreaker)
- 2 league championships
- 1 World Series titles

So, its certainly possible to get the game out of "Easy mode". [:)]
