Not sure, as I had never seen this pic before. It may be the Nevada.

Notice the lighter painted tops of the main turrents. The turret tops were painted different colors so the floatplane pilots could identify their own BB. Documentation has been recently announced that the Arizona was painted 5S - sea blue and light grey fighting tops. The tops of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th turret were painted read. Big B may have to recolor his Peal Harbor BBs!

i will have to look into coloring the tops of the gun turrets. that is interesting and would screw up every model build in the last 40 years. same thing is happening with the swedish warship vasa. they are discovering new colors that make older models of her "wrong". of course that would be wrong to the .oo1% of people that would know.

Waynec,

Yes, I was quite suprised by the news myself. Some of the new documentation includes a naval order by Kimmel on the turret top colors as well as the 5S paint I believe. There has been, and is, quite a discussion of this going on on some of the model ship building sites such as SteelNavy and ModelWarships since it was announced Dec. 7th at the unveiling of the new Arizona model on display at the memorial at PH. The new model on display shows the 5S-Sea Blue and the red tops for turrets 1,2 and 4. This is believable, as cruisers during the same time period had colored strips on their turrets for the same purpose and is readily discernable in period photos. The complete documentation will be released in the near future according to the researchers doing the work.

PS - really nice banner of BB39.

Thanks for sharing. I still have trouble believing that Shaw returned to active duty after that explosion.

Love the guy in Pic 9 with the rifle[8D]. He looks like he's itching to shoot something ... anything!
