I am just kinda figuring this out now which is unfortunate since Im midway thru a pbem game at the moment. It seems like I should have built a lot more infantry early on in the que to always make sure I use every last pop. seems kinda unrealistic. It'd be nice if they'd let you keep at least some of the pops.

Also. Can Japan declare war on Russia and not involve Germany or is it basically once one goes they both go.
I'd love a game option that allowed for separate war counters for these two. Lots more possiblities.

You can store limited population. Basically, you should never leave more than one turn's population unused at the end of your turn. IIRC, that means Germany should never have more than 11 in their pool after production and Japan never more than 8.

Yes, Japan can declare war on Russia without Germany declaring war. That will just unfreeze the Eastern and Central Soviet Zones, but it's very hard for Japan to take on Russia in a land war without German help.

Oh wow that sounds like fun.  I may just do that. There might be a way for me to cut him off a bit from reinforcing his eastern front (dropping a paratrooper on his siberian railroad) Then have germany attack 1-2 turns later when they are ready. meanwhile hopefully he's put a ton of effort into trying to defend from japan while my tanks roll through the caucus.

p.s hopefully my opponent does not read this.

edit. I think I figured out the bomber range issue for Japan's attack on Russia. Even tho the range is 4 and attack can only go about one territory in since its a double boundary. i think that's it at least.

Can you clarify please Joel?

I --think- he means. you can only store 1 seson of population. i.e. if you leave any more than is produced in that season available for production, it's wasted.

See section 11.5 in the rules for complete details about what can be stored.
