FFE -> Screen Saver - Issue (12/11/2006 6:22:54 PM)

I am unable to continue playing after the screen saver turns on. The game becomes a small portion of the screen, and the cursor does not respond to any clicks within the miniaturized game screen. I can tab out of the game. I am using a standard XP Pro screen saver.

Can you return to the game with the task manager?  I'm not familiar with the screen saver you mention -- what is its name in the list of standard XP screen savers?

When I come back from screen saver the map is in black and white with a little rectangle in the lower left of the screen. I click on the little rectangle and it turns blue then I right click and the game is back to normal.

EDIT: Correction - I don't right click - I double click the little blue rectangle and the game comes back.

I can alt-tab back to the game. The screen is miniaturized, and does not accept commands. The screen is so small I can see 50% of the desktop, too. I have been unable to restore the miniature game back to full size.

Do you know what the name of the standard XP screen saver is that you are using?  I'd like to try to duplicate this on my machine, but can't if I don't have the screen saver.  It sounds as though the screen saver is changing the resolution of the screen in a way that is not recognized by DirectX.

Using 3-D Pipes with a native resolution of 1920 x 1200. Thanks

I have duplicated the problem with "3-D Pipes".  Unfortunately it seems that Pipes is doing something that causes the DirectX routines to fail to re-initialize the screen resolution when FOF is restored.  I don't know of any other routines to call to try to set the resolution off-hand.  Unless I can find something else, I'm going to have to recommend simply disabling that screen saver.  I will experiment to see whether or not other standard XP screen savers cause this problem.

Great, glad you were able to reproduce it!
