Those pesky Rebels! I have an army with over 60,000 men chasing around the remnants of a Confederate division with less than 900 men. I have lots of battles, but the rebels always escape with no casualties.

How do I stamp them out once and for all? I've been chasing them around for over a year!

Thanks in advance,
JIM

Does your army have cavalry? They increase the chance of causing more losses to a retreating force IIRC.

Yes, I use a standard mix in each Division, Three Infantry, One Cav, One Field Artillery.

This sometimes happens. I'm not sure if there's an easy programming fix, but you certainly don't need to send 60,000 men after them. Think of how many men you're losing through march attrition (assuming that you have that option toggled on). Perhaps just send a division after them, and use the rest of your force where it's needed more.

If that enemy division is at just 900 men it won't last much longer...

Well, that is my point, they are lasting, and lasting and lasting. They are like the damn Enigizer bunny, they just keep going and going.
And yes, I know it is a waste to have 60,000 men chasing 900, but I wanted to stamp them out, and I had plenty of troops elsewhere.
I didn't mention but I was playing "quick battle always" option. If I was on detailed battle, I guess I could surround each unit so they would have nowhere to run.
There should be some sort of check that says "If this battle has been fought three identical times before, it's time to do something different" and that would probably put an end to it.
