Bucks -> Harpoon3ANW-UpdateReleaseBeta-373 Database Signature offer (12/18/2006 7:27:22 PM)

Greetings all,

Due to some issues that are still being resolved in regard to the H3ANW database, the Harpoon3Editor.exe was omitted from the Patch installation file. This situation renders all databases unusable unless they have the required signature file. Unfortunately without the game editor it will be impossible to use any DB or scenarios that are not included in the patch.

The AGSI team are working through the issues as I type this and we should have a more permanent solution by week's end, fingers crossed. In the meantime I am offering an interim solution.

I have been granted permission by Don Gilman to provide the relevant signature files so that players can use any user-created database they please. There's a couple of ways of going about this but firstly if all DB editors could contact me that would like a signature generated for their currently available database and I'll send them a copy for posting on their relevant websites.

If there are individual users that can't get the signature they need then please contact me directly with your email address and details of the database and I'll organize to get you the signature so you can get testing.

Cheers

Darren Buckley

Its really nice you're doing this Darren thank you!

Any idea on the next patch that fixes the problem?

Mik, No stress mate just trying to help people enjoy the game.

It's more to do with the agreements that DB authors will need to abide by. We were more concerned with the game details and not some of the issues that were game related in an attempt to get the patch out to users.

The "fine print" stuff is getting worked out now so it wont be too much longer. The presently available patch was AGSI's effort to have the general user try out the RC before it was passed as the official patch. I took part in the same process for CS Source but I doubt you'll have to play the same map/scen over and over like I did for 3+ months.

Cheers

Darren

G'day All,

No worries Sirius, but there's no agreement with the file I've sent. The intention of AGSI is for myself to distribute signatures to allow for testing of the Beta patch. The stuff about licensing etc will come soon, but the period leading up to the final "Gold" release of the Patch is to allow registered H3ANW users the opportunity to try out what's been done to the game and pass comment, find things that aren't working as expected (bugs) and allow AGSI to finalise anything that becomes apparent during mass use. Remember the testing team is small and although we try to catch most things we are all trying to deal with many issues at once.

So really you have the file you requested to allow you to update your database download on your website and re-save your scens to make them match the database signature I have sent you. You may post these updated files as you see fit on your site and people can then download and start testing using your database. The idea is to get the community involved in the evolution of the game, to fire feedback to AGSI as they test via the various Harpoon forums or directly. So don't hold back get those scens out there and let the testing commence.

Cheers

Darren

Hi Buck looking at updating my db in the near future I take I have to get a fresh sig file for it to work on ANW, as we are still waiting for the Gods in Valhalla to sort out the db editor distrubution thing[:)]

Bucks -> RE: Harpoon3ANW-UpdateReleaseBeta-373 Database Signature offer (12/30/2006 4:57:59 PM)

Yes SIRIUS, you need to get a new signature file for your DB after every export. You'll also need to either rebuild, if the platforms edited during the update exist within the scens. If no platforms are affected you will only need to open the scen and save it without rebuilding.

Most DB authors/editors won't be able to keep track of every platform edited and their use in the DB's scens so the rebuild function is a good guarantee of making sure your scens are fully updated to your current database version. Again this is one of the main reasons for the signature files' existance, in that it eliminates the chance of players starting scenarios that are not fully up to date with the current DB version.

Hope that Helps

Darren

P.S.
The agreement for the DB editor is being finalised now, and we should be ready to go with the final release version simultaneously with the official patch release. I'm going to suggest that may be as little as two weeks away... [8D]

Tnx Buck I know I have to re-build after every new db export, the sig thing at the moment is a reak pain as I'm in the middle of building scens and updating platforms almost every day for the platforms that is, so until the new db editor is ready I'm stuffed in scen disign for the next acouple or so weeks, as asking you for a sig everytime I redo a platform or build one for a scen is well not on really , its nothing against you by the way Buck [:)]
