Amaroq -> Amateur Draft - in June? (12/20/2006 9:45:17 PM)

Shaun, here's a massive wrinkle you could throw at people: Put the draft in June, the way the real MLB draft is. How would this work? We would create the *pool* back in the off-season, with a fairly inaccurate scouting. Have the scouting get more and more accurate through Spring Training, April, and May. Players (and teams) draft rookies in June, which putting them over the roster limit (N). They then have to make cuts and trades to 'make room' for their new draftees and get back down to N players. It would create a lot of roster movement, and sort of force at least one mid-season evaluation of the minor-league squads. It would make for a lot of interesting decisions, and especially so if any of the rookies wound up signed to major-league contracts, therefore consuming a spot on the new 40-man roster.
