Kadorak -> Mods/AI + Mods/CHS Variants (1/10/2007 5:23:22 PM)

Hi,

I've been playing WPO for a while and decided to try a WITP campaign on the side as well. I have 3 questions, which I realize have probably been repeated ad infinitum but a quick search couldn't turn up something answering these, though some threads here are close:

1. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the various mods available, in people's opinions? Best is presumably a matter of opinion, but what does each do well? Are some more complicated and require more micro-management for the sake of realism, while others abstract things for the sake of gameplay?
2. How does the AI cope with the various mods? Does it present a decent game if you don't do anything to exploit it, or does it get totally confused by a changed map?
3. The mod I downloaded and installed so far is CHS, since it has a mod switching program if I wanted to change to another one. It has 3 air to air combat models, and I was wondering what's wrong with the default air-to-air model and what are the perks of each of the alternatives.

Thanks,
Kadorak

1. Everyone has their opinions about the best mods. CHS does not radically change the game much, it just adds a lot of ships and planes that were left out of the original game. Some versions of CHS have the Nik Mod, which changes the air to air and flak combat models. A2A combat is less bloody, while flak is more effective. You can also get the Nik Mod for the stock game. RHS is still in development, but it is an attempt to do a major reworking of the game. Some of the changes have sparked some controversy. There are many other mods out there too, most are on one or another of the fan sites.

2. The AI seems to cope well with most of the mods. The ones that have the Soviets active from the start cannot be played with the Allies as AI because the Soviets will attack. I played a full campaign with the CHS mod with Japan as AI and the AI was fine.

3. Some people claim the stock air combat model is too bloody. I'm not sure what the 3rd combat mod is, but the Nik Mod is probably one of them, which I described above.

That's my 2 cents. I'm sure others will have their opinions to add.

Bill
