qaa22211 -> 3/4 tutorial scenarios' scenario document unreadable (1/12/2007 6:29:38 AM)

I recently bought the downloadable TOAW III. Being new to the game, I tried to follow the suggestion of playing the 4 tutorials in sequence. This would require me to alt-tab between the scenario document associated with each scenario and the game screen and generally follow along according to the script. When I tried that with the first tutorial, aptly named "Tutorial", I couldn't even get to first base. Because when I clicked on the scenario document button, I got a Microsoft error message going like this: Microsoft Word 97 Conversion
Unable to load graphics conversion filter.
Continue with document conversion?
Yes No
With the second tutorial named "Anonymous Heroics", this problem did not occur and the document opened normally with the Adobe Reader 7.0. However, with the next 2 scenarios, "Tannenberg 1914" and "Kasserine 43", the same problem as with the first scenario "Tutorial" recurred. I would sure appreciate help with this matter in case someone has run across it already and solved the problem. Thanks.

First of all, thanks for the purchase!

Do you have Microsoft Word installed on your machine? Or are you using the word processing portion of Microsoft Works? Which version, in either event? Was it a full install, or did you choose the option to load from cd on some of the filters?

My preliminary guess is that you do not have Microsoft Word, or a file compatable word processessing program installed. Since the Anonymous Heroics scenario doc uses only text, it would probably convert easily in the Word processor of MS Works, whereas the graphics imbedded in the other three docs would give Works problems.

Here's the tutorial document, I had to strip out several of the pictures to make it fit, but it should still be usable.

And here is Kasserine.

From what I can tell, I have something called Word Pad. That obviously doesn't work. Well, I guess I can try them (the scenarios) without the documents. The mechanics of using the interface I can learn from plowing through the manual. Thanks for your help.

I tried to open your attachments using as many document opener programs as my machine possessed but to no avail. Some opened it as gibberish, and others not at all. Well, I'm going to have to manage without them by studying the manual and learning the mechanics of the interface. The game looks good though, well-crafted and detailed but still remaining a game. Thanks for trying to help out.

Catch21 -> Free MS Word File Viewer (1/13/2007 2:45:16 AM)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=95E24C87-8732-48D5-8689-AB826E7B8FDF&displaylang=en should allow you to download an MS Word File viewer for free.

Hope it helps.

Your suggestion did the trick. Thank you so very much! I can now view all documents attached to all tutorials.

Thanks General Staff for that tip. Added it to the FAQ.
