saj42 -> Non-Respawn Scenarios (1/14/2007 10:52:45 PM)

What non-respawn scenarios are available?

I've found scen 166 (CHS + Nik Mod + Ron's US Naval OOB) on Andrews site BUT when I download it and use the editor to view database it appears EXACTLY the same as scen 157[&:] It still shows the respawn areas and no additional CVs - ship slots 3020 ish) etc.

Either I'm downloading and installing it incorrectly or there was a mistake in the compilation of the package - I'm hoping its me

Could someone pls check if they can download scen 166 from Andrews site and that its correct[&o][&o][&o]

Thanks in advance

We have learned how to control respawn. We don't respawn carriers or cruisers (etc) in RHS - because we moved the class files - and hard code associated with those slots is defeated.

We want respawn - or things like smaller vessels won't work properly. It is impossible to have thousands of minesweepers - so we just show those at the front - as it were. IF you prevent ALL respawn - then this does not happen. IF you allow ANY respawn - the big guys will respawn - unless you learn to control the classes. Then you get your cake and eat it too.

Cid,

Is it a trade secret or can you let us mere mortals in on the secret of the classes (I presume you mean its hardcoded into the slots used in the database)

el cid again -> RE: Non-Respawn Scenarios (1/16/2007 2:14:26 AM)

Just wrote too cryptically. It is the class slot - pure and simple. IF a ship respawns (e.g. the Essex) - MOVE the slot. You also can make a DIFFERENT ship respawn - putting it into the stock Essex slot. This applies to certain cruisers as well. And others probably - I forget. There is a thread with it all spelled out for us - thankfully - the Forum is the trade secret!

Ian R -> RE: Non-Respawn Scenarios (1/16/2007 3:10:33 AM)

Do you move all the class files including upgrades, or the ship file to a different slot? Both?

Would you need to move, for example,

original lexington class
1942A refit lexington class
1942B refit ditto
1943 refit ditto etc

and related upgrade class files to different slots, or just move the Lexington ship file to a different slot?

PS has anyone produced a spreadsheet editor yet? It would make life so much easier.

el cid again -> RE: Non-Respawn Scenarios (1/16/2007 6:34:41 AM)

Just the original slot. Either move it - or replace it. Someone put Midway in the Essex slot - and all his respawned carriers are Midways! Faster than ever they could have been built too. Code = magic.

Look at WITP Excel.

So leaving all three original class slots (Essex/Baltimore/Cleveland) empty would stop respawning?

I'd love to find the thread you mentioned - but with this search engine[&:]

That is what we do in RHS. I think we moved other slots as well. Every one you don't want - move. But leave the little things alone - they make respawn a good idea.

Otherwise, fill EVERY ship slot with a ship - or something that seems to be a ship to code (9999ed out). Then it cannot respawn - and that works too.

Thanks Cid [&o]
All i've got to do now is identify the missing ships and arrival dates and do my own mod (of a mod)
I can now go to bed and sleep peacefully (if I can stop dreaming WitP that is...)

I have done the 9999 in the date field for every empty slotand it does not prevent respawns. Both platest scenarios i am running have respawns. I thik it must reuse the same slot as the sunk ship?

el cid again -> RE: Non-Respawn Scenarios (1/22/2007 9:40:13 AM)

Since I don't have respawn for classes I care about (including Brooklyn, Cleveland, Omaha, Wichita, Northampton, Pensacola, etc and Lexington and Yorktown and Independence) - I have not tried this. But I am told you need a ship record in every slot - and you 9999 out the ones you don't want. It is not just the 9999 - but the ship itself that needs to be there. Probably name and class and 9999 in delay is sufficient.

Ian R -> RE: Non-Respawn Scenarios (1/22/2007 9:59:50 AM)

If only Matrix would would give us the option to save a save file without it being encrypted so we could look at these things, and in games against the AI particularly, fix things like disappearing and phantom units, lost air group fragments and leaders, and the like. If people really distrust their PBEM opponents that much, maybe they could set up the switch so that it locks at the beginning of a PBEM game.

But they aren't going to do it.

I will have to give that a test. I choose not to move locations if at all possible from stock. At least no the templates such as classes and LCU's.

Monter_Trismegistos -> RE: Non-Respawn Scenarios (1/22/2007 12:26:28 PM)

I agree. Empty slot (without name and class defined) 9999eyed does not prevent respawn.
