Donald Trump ruined that, but they did win against the NFL in court for $1 damages.

Talk about sad.

is the USFL still going?

WallysWorld -> RE: USFL Pittsburgh Maulers news story (1/17/2007 10:07:57 PM)

According to a USFL website, the USFL was offered $175 million over 4 years by ABC and $70 for 4 years by ESPN to broadcast spring-only games starting in 1986.

So the USFL by moving to the fall left about $250 million on the table.

Actually, it was an anti-trust lawsuit, so the damages were immediately trebled to $3. So small that one of the lawyers from the NFL crossed the courtroom and paid the 'judgement' out of his own pocket.

I read a book on the league's entire existence (I believe it was called "The $1 League"), and Trump's entire plan in bullying the other teams into moving to a fall schedule was to try and force a merger with the NFL.

Actually- the NFL mailed a check for $3.76 to Steve Ehrhart around March 15, 1990 (that's the date on the check anyway). Ehrhart started out with the Memphis Showboats in their front office but ended up moving to the USFL offices as an executive.

Izzatso? Funny, I distictly remember in the newspaper article when the USFL announced it was 'suspending operations' (read: folding) that the lawyer paid out three singles in the courtroom. Maybe it was a written as a joke in the article and seeing as I was 13 when I read it, I didn't pick up on it.

Then I stand corrected. Thanks for that, scottGreene.

Wait, you've seen the cheque?

dreamtheatervt -> RE: USFL Pittsburgh Maulers news story (1/24/2007 7:34:44 PM)

I've seen a picture of the check on TV, and it is $3.76.  The judgement accrued interest.

Here is a picture of the check from ESPN...
