Japanese_Spirit -> What do "Guns" identify as? (2/22/2007 7:22:08 PM)

I am not sure but the Guns that you have in a division, do they contribute as actual artillery guns or small arms, such as rifles and what have you?

I originally thought that they would be artillery but after seeing a seperate artillery section in a unit's base, I am a bit confused.

On a side note, are the artillery you find in a base the actual coastal guns? What do they do?

And on another side note, if I may ask, if there are vehicles in an infantry unit, they contribute as trucks and halftracks and vehicles in an armoured unit contribute as tanks, am I correct?

Thanks, these things have just got me a bit confused.

All tanks are identified by their proper name, same with halftracks. Trucks are considered integral to support and motorized support.

Artillery is split up by type, so coastal artillery guns are marked as "CD". Artillery is artillery, so to speak...

I see. Well, I have looked at unit stats but I can't find any mention of say halftracks. In the manual, it did state that vehicles of an infantry division automatically had halftracks in them. So, should it actually have "halftracks" noted down in an infantry division?

I have noticed "vehicles" in a division but in the TOE, I just have artillery guns and such and such squads staring back at me, so I am a little confused.

Also, thanks, so the CD's are the coastal guns.....

What do the artillery do? Are they just for show or do they actually do something?

And the Guns I mean are the ones you do battle with. For example, "800 casualties, 6 guns lost", etc. Are those actual artillery guns or rifles and small arms?

The guns you lose are every artillery piece that you can see separately.

Artillery goes BOOM and lands bad things on people, you know...

Right, so I take it that the guns you lose actually come from the artillery section, kind of like a pool? For replacements, etc?

Thanks my good Danish sir. [:)]

Yep... Didn't mean to be a smart aleck, by the way, but I wasn't really sure how to explain my self.

Seriously, sorry about that. I think what you're asking is what the headings "Men", "Guns" and "Vehicles" in the casualty reports denote.

Have a look at the screenie below. The Rifle Squad and Engineer Squad, along with the "Engineers" and "Support" are considered "Men" (BTW, difference between "Engineer Squad" and "Engineers" is that the former blows things up and the latter builds things). The rest are all considered "Guns".

Here's a US Tank Battalion. Everything here is considered a vehicle, aside from the "Support" entry.

Right, now I see. Okay, so, the "guns" in the TOW, like Anti-Tank brigades, etc, are considered the "guns" that you lose in battle? Ahhhhh......now that makes sense indeed.

Thanks for all your help Terminus and no worries, no offence taken, I appreciate your help. [:)]
