KG Erwin -> What Is Your Favorite War Movie Music? (2/23/2007 2:42:05 AM)

For capturing the "flavor" of a movie, my all-time fave is the soundtrack to "Das Boot".

However it's hard to beat these five distinctive themes. As soon as you hear them, you know what's coming on:

1. "Bridge Over the River Kwai"
2. "Lawrence of Arabia"
3. "Band of Brothers"
4. "Glory"
5. "Gettysburg"

Just about anything from Glenn Miller. Was that 1 n or 2 in Glen(n) Miller?

Best wishes,

The Russian film Aleksandr Nevskiy had some nice music that went with it.

"Lawrence of Arabia" soundtrack is my number one pick. The cinematography and music complement each other better than any other movie I've ever seen. "Dr. Zhivago" is a close second.

I always liked the song the British soldiers sang in Zulu. Wish I knew the name of that tune. (Welshmen will not yield?)

Fred98 -> RE: What Is Your Favorite War Movie Music? (2/23/2007 5:17:03 AM)

In Zulu the song was called "Men of Harlech"

My fav tune is the theme from Kelley's Heroes - Burning Bridges

You can purchase the original song but you cannot purchase the sountrack from the movie with the arty strikes.

I catch myself whistling that German nursery rhyme from Cross of Iron [:D] Its a catchy tune.

I'd go with The Great Escape, The Dam Busters and Bridge On The River Kwai

was just thinking, no-ones mentioned this yet - the opening tune, with the plane flying over the mountains - got you ready for a top, old style war film

well remembered

In no particular order:
Dam Busters (also a favourite at Lincoln City FC [:D])
Das Boot
633 Squadron
Platoon
Apocalypse Now

Randy -> RE: What Is Your Favorite War Movie Music? (3/5/2007 9:46:31 AM)

The Longest Day, Battle of the Bulge, and The Great Escape.

Marauders -> RE: What Is Your Favorite War Movie Music? (3/7/2007 8:05:45 AM)

A Bridge Too Far, The Great Escape, and Where Eagles Dare top my list.

I always liked the theme to Rat Patrol, but that was on television.
