I read the Blood Sweet and Tears post, Erik is right this forum should be fun and not an attack on anybodies opponion if the information is wrong then you just need to inform them where the right information can be found. We need to use this forum to learn things about the game play and also the history that has inspired it, we also need this forum to finds out when where and what is happening with that patch like how I got that in this one to.

Three cheers for Erik.

Speaking of fun. I have been playing the Federals now for some time and actually find winnig with them quite possible. I think this game is well balanced between the to factions with the ability to adjust the settings and preferences. The detailed combat actually makes up the best part of the game.

The Yankees!??! Ha ha ha!! me too, I amplaying my first game as them/us/me and I am slightly befuddled in the early stages now.

When playing the CSA I took the Counterfitting Tech. upgrade/choice and I think that threw a big monkey wrench in the Union economy as the description of that Counterfitting upgrade stated. I don't know if the Union has anything to counter that. [&:]

First time I learned of the Red River Campaign was while at Ft. Polk, LA (Ft. Puke as some called it), North Ft. Polk, Tigerland, RVN Oriented Inf. School in early 1971, and the fellow that told me about it was a taxi driver, a real decent fellow as many people around there were, kind too, since they knew we were training for RVN and maybe some of us would go and not come back. I can't remember the guy's name, but he explained the campaign and drove us through mansfield and Sabine Crossroads, and he had a good sense of humor. took us to a good fishing spot but told us about the Cottonmouths, and they were all over the place. My main interest is now the Trans Miss. Theater. Lots of Copperheads in Devil's Den and Little and Big Round Tops at Gettysburg, too, lots of them. same in SE Michigan with the Massasuag rattlers, the Swamp rattlers that are also down South, same-same, and when it rains a lot and the swamps and lowlands flood here the Massasuagas come up out of the swamps, a good number of them, with the largest only being about 30" or so, usually smaller.

Hmmm, I guess snakes fall into the disease category in the game.

Chris

Been to Ft. Polk and really didn't care much for it. As for snakes I hate them. Living in Arkansas we have our share of them. My wife agreed to pick up our leave piles in the back yard this fall, after I raked them up. She found one copperhead in one pile and darn if she didn't find another one in a pile not 10 feet away. The piles had set out there for about two days before she decided to bag them. Now I can't even get her to rake.

First time we had snakes in our yard. We live in town.[X(] I ain't pick'em up![:D]

Yup!!! At Ft. Polk, was the Alligator still there back out on the golf course when you were there?? Interesting place. Lots of beasties. I was attacked by a large Wild Boar there during training, and managed to get out of the tussle with but a few bruises and a bitten leg. The thing tried to eat me at night when I was sleeping out on Peason Ridge, playing chase the VC and search the Villes and tunnels etc. Poor thing was as surprised as I was. I was lucky because it probably weighed at least 100 pounds, maybe 150 at the most. I weighed only about 140. It had bad breath and sharp hooves too, and grabbed my leg when I was sleeping. Very exhilarating. [8|]

I live in Detroit, so the Massasaugas have been wiped out here long ago, but in the hills and swamps around Detroit they are alive and well. Glad to hear you and your wife didn't get nailed by the Copperheads. I have seen people get bit by Rattlers, but not any other poisonous snake. They're intersting but can be a bit dangerous. I 've been bit by non-poisonous snakes, and some like Blue Racers and Black White Bellied Water Snakes (Black Racers) can chew the heck out of you, and they are fast. Good to eat though, most all snake meat is I guess, just like Alligator tail, and yup, snake tastes like chicken too, just like Alligator.

I have lived here in the north all my life, and we get some Southern and Western Black Widows that come in with lumber etc. in the warm seasons, but it wasn't till last year that I discovered there was a Northern Black Widow that is I believe just as bad as its Southern and Western cousins, and I have seen them but just didn't know they were this Northern subspecies or species. How wonderful. They have actually been crawling on me before. Pays to be ignorant of somethings sometimes. I would have flipped and levitated off the ground if I had known what they were. [X(]

I have known a lot of folks from Dixie, and had a couple of friends that had relatives from Arkansas and/or were originally from there. Fellow I grew up with, my old friend Ray, may he rest in peace, his family was fromAK and MO and he had relatives that fought on both sides of the ACW, and his family still had a CSA uniform in good condition.

Arkansas is a beautiful State. The Ozarks and Boston Mtns. and all.

Take care, Chris the Infernal and Dastardly Yankee ( I always get a kick out of some of the terminology from back then, and Victorian Era British and American languages can be quite humorous at times, dastardly even!! Balderdash and poppycock I say!! And all that.) [8|]

Yep spiders are on that snake list also(fiddlebacks). I agree, I would have flip to if I had one of those widows on me.

We are kind of partial to wild boar here(razorbacks). Glad to see that you lived thru your pig fight.[:D]

Yeah, Fiddlebacks, Brown Recluses, they are native here now in Michigan as they live in homes during the Winter, and they came up on lumber from the South too, just as the Southern Black Widow did. There are many Loxosceles (Brown) Spiders, and there are species or subspecies that are native to michigan, but they are not quite as dangerous as the Loxoscelses Reclusa, the Brown Recluse, although the Northern Recluses can give a nasty bite and inflamation.

Them things can be creepy!! Ever seen films of the Australian Sydney Funnel web Spider, probably the most dangerous in the world, and they are a primitive spider with 2 fangs rather than jaws, like Tarantulas and Wolf Spiders, but very, very aggressive. I saw a film of an Australian fellow doing research on the Funnel Webs, and he let this one attack his hand, and man oh man did that thing hit him, and its fangs were buried deep enough into this guy';s finger so that the spider did not fall or shale off. They can strike hard enough to pierce thin shoe leather. That guy was nuts.

I had another freind from Arkansas, his name was major, and he had been in the Navy , and had white hair and a beard and looked very simialr to Colonel Snaders of KFC fame. Well Major, not only knew me, he also knew another fellow thatwas attacked by a Wild Boar in Tennessee, and that guy manage to kill the boars, with a knife I do believe. So, perhaps major may be the only person around that knows 2 people that were attacked by Wild Boars. Isn't Major the lucky one. He told me about the other guy aftet I told him my story, and he was just shaking his head saying 'I believe you, I believe you.' He's also had a few hairy experiences in his life. I was shot at when wearing my underware and drinking coffee once upon a time. [8|]

Heck, life can be rather odd at times to say the least. At least I did surprise the boar a bit and he did get the worst of it, and it was a tussle. Lucky after he ran off a short distance that other people started coming over to where I was at, because the boar was angry and shaking his head that I had kicked, gouged, and punched, and he was coming back for me. the one that got me was a Western Razorback, not a crossbreed Habalena or wild domestic pig. Pigs are dangerous. So are crazed Bulls and Cows. Good to eat though. Bar-B-Q.

Chris
