undercovergeek -> Ordering/Shopping for ships??? (3/5/2007 6:07:10 PM)

In a certain post in the 'must read threads' at one point it suggests 'order several AS/AE/AR/MLE.'

am i mistaken in reading 'order' in a 'mail order' kind of way - is there a screen i am unaware of where it is possible to request certain ships to be sent in the next batch of reinforcemenst, or am i wrong? (which is probably the case)

Well, I think Walmart tends to have best price, but the "shipping" charges are horrindous...

To "order" those auxilleries, you have to have 7000 capacity AKs in San Francisco, disbanded.  You then click on the actual ship, and you'll see buttons at the bottom "Convert to..." They come back as a reinforcemnet 180 days later.

Also, the PCs can be converted to APGs (PT boat tenders).  Frankly, I don't bother, I'm not really a PT freak anyway.

No you can't simply request a new ship. What this refers to is converting several of the large AK class ships to AS/AE/AR/MLE. At Osaka/Kobe and San Francisco (only) if you open the window for an individual Large AK you'll find several buttons down in the bottom left-hand corner of the dialog that will allow you to switch the AK to one of these types. Note that :-

* The AK must be in port, not a TF.
* Osaka/Kobe and San Francisco ONLY
* Once you click the button there's no going back - you can't abort the conversion and you can't convert back
* The ship will be gone for 6 months.
* The conversion effort will consume merchant shipyard points (really only a consideration for the japanese).

Also the allies can convert LSTs and AKs to AGP (PT boat tenders).

EDIT: Changed Tokyo to Osaka/Kobe, thanks to temagic for pointing out my error.

BTW, that's PGs that become AGPs, not PCs.

I haven't decided just how useful AGPs are, anyways. Since PTs can rearm at any level 3 or larger port with sufficient supply, it seems to me that AGPs just provide your enemy with targets... at least in the early war. Later on when you have enough fighters to protect them they might be more useful.

just wanted to clarify, that for the japanese player, the ship has to be in Osaka/Kobe, not Tokyo, for the options to convert merchant ships to auxilliaries.
