I know this has been said before, but will base stealing ever be fixed? I love to manage each game for my Indians. In the last two games, I have had Jesse Levis behind the plate (64 arm). In those two games, the Twins have stolen third base 5 times. Two times with a player with a speed of 65 and three times with a player with a speed of 74. All 5 times, the player first stole 2nd and then third. There is no way that this should be happening. Every time the Twins have a baserunner on first, they are running. Unless of course, if I pick pitchout, then they stay at first. They have yet to try to steal when I have chosen pitchout. (This is with CE 3 BTW)

On the other hand, whenever I try to have one of my players steal, they chose pitchout and catch him. Kenny Lofton is 3 for 10 with a speed of 95. Attempts have been made with 0,1, or 2 outs at times with the score at other times. He was even caught on a pitchout once in the eighth inning with the Indians down by 8. At that point, most teams will grant the base on indifference. It just doesn't seem to be working and it is frustrating to watch the other team run wild while I cannot even start.

(BTW: I have been playing since PS 2005 and really love the game but this is getting frustrating)

That's really interesting, as the situation is just the opposite with me. My top two base stealers are also the top two in the association (Ashburn, speed 75 and Snider, speed 82 have 53 and 51 SBs, respectively). Opposing teams rarely get away with a steal, as I've got a catcher with a rifle arm.

Conversely, my rabbits get caught more frequently than I'd like, but I seldom try to steal third. Stealing second seems to be fairly easy, as long as the opposing catcher's arm is less than 60.

That being said, I don't see any anomalies in the results. You play the percentages, but a sure thing doesn't exist.

Yea my guy's seem to be able to steal to easily too me.. I have the top 2 or 3 guy's on my team.  I try not to use steal base too often when I'm coaching because I feel that it's a bug in the game that my guy's are able to steal so easily.  To me it makes me feel like I'm cheating if I constantly steal bases.  Now given my guy's have been caught a couple times but they usually make it and then it's just up to my crappy lineup to hit them in.

I find the SB % to be fairly accurate. I find if I send even a runner with a 70 plus speed rating against a catcher with a 90+ arm he gets caught 3 out of 5 times where that same runner will make it 3 out of five with a poor armed catcher. I play historical.

You can change it in the XML.

Yes, you can, but I see no need in doing so.

The bigger problem that I see is their players stealing 3rd wayyyyy too often. I watch probably about 100 games a year on TV and see maybe 5-10 attempts at third base. I've played about 20 games this season and the opposing team has actually stolen 3rd base 5 times with none caught. These aren't speedsters either and my catcher has a decent arm. It just shouldn't happen.

Alright, after this season I'll go back and analyze it.

Stolen base totals, current:

Richie Ashburn has a speed rating of 75, but has been more successful than Duke Snider, speed rating 82.

Ashburn bats ahead of Snider in the lineup, which may account for this. The batting situations may often differ, which may trigger the AI to call a pitch-out.

Then again, the "roll of the dice" maybe just hasn't worked out that well for Duke.

Is it really a problem? You tell me. I just happened to luck out and draft a couple of rabbits.

donkuchi19 -> RE: Stealing Bases (3/18/2007 8:01:18 AM)

The totals and percentages don't look bad, but how many are where third base is stolen. The chance at stealing third should be much less than second. The attempts should also be a lot less. In my league, if a runner tries to steal second, he is 90% sure to try and steal third.

kwik -> RE: Stealing Bases (3/20/2007 1:17:48 AM)

Yes in some associations basestealers numbers are up there, edit this in the xml to give your catchers better arm ,stealers less jump(forget where its at in XML at moment but just do a find in your notepad for steals.

kwik -> RE: Stealing Bases (3/20/2007 2:36:17 AM)

Here the lines to adjust basestealing

<STEAL_SPEED_MULTIPLIER Value="180"/> (LOWER THIS NUMBER) ez does it,i went 183 to 180
<!-- Higher means better thows on steal attemps -->
<CATCHER_ARM_MULTIPLIER Value="109.35"/> (RAISE THIS NUMBER) I went 107.35 to 109.35
#####Have to adjust these numbers ever so slightly

These are my settings for 1977 season, had too many steals goin on too so I adjusted
