Kharan -> Score bug (8/21/2000 5:46:00 AM)

Here we go again Quote from the manual: "Some players felt that abandoned vehicles and guns should generate victory points. Now, any units abandoned are considered destroyed,for victory point purposes, if that side does not control the battlefield. Control of the battlefield goes to the side with the most victory objective points." "At the end of the game, abandoned vehicles belonging to the side that controls fewer objective hexes will be treated as destroyed for the victory point tally." This is untrue, at least in v2.3. Controlling most victory hexes doesn't do anything in this regard, abandoned guns or tanks still produce only the amount of points equal to how many men their crew had. Example: Your T-34 destroys a Pz-IIIj (cost 55, value 61). At the end, you get 61 points. Additionally, if you kill the crew (5 men), you get a total of 66 points. Your T-34 shoots up the tracks of Pz-IIIj, and the crew vacates. At the end, even if you own all the victory hexes, you get only 5 points (amount of crew). And, if you kill the crew, you get 5 points again. Your Shturmovik disables suspension of opponent's Jagdtiger. The tank is left facing a non-useful direction. Your opponent vacates the crew, thus saving 220 points. I agree with the principle from the manual, but you might want to take a look at this. It's obviously not working.

In version 3.0 you will be able to destroy abandoned tanks. This can be done with infantry who move into the hex with the tank for one full turn unsuppressed. They can then destroy it and get the points. Otherwise, one would assume that is was left on the battlefield and possibly recovered later by the enemy and used again...WB ------------------ In Arduis Fidelis Wild Bill Wilder Coordinator, Scenario Design Matrix Games

Just thought I'd mention... unlike advertised , abandoned tanks are still not counted as destroyed in any situation in v3.0b23.

Paul Vebber -> (8/28/2000 10:56:00 PM)

We appreciate bug reports, but this "Version 3.0.23b" is a beta version, without many fixes implemented. the intent was that anyone with that version wopuld immediately upgrade to the full version 3.0. Please do not report bugs associated with it. As to the problem, we have changed the way abandoned vehicles are destroyed so the point is moot. Any chance of having a capture option in Campaigns? With the purpose of being able to use the tank in the next scenario or so within the Campaign. That would be an awesome option. ------------------ MJ We serve others best when at the same time we serve ourselves.

Paul Vebber -> (8/31/2000 2:53:00 AM)

No capture option...Sorry

Alex -> (8/31/2000 2:44:00 PM)

Dont you think that abandoned tanks that are "blown up" by inf. units should count for more points, just to pretend the tank is captured which is better than blasting it? I think that might be a good idea, but I'm not shure its easy to do or realistic... did soldiers really blow up abandoned enemy tanks? Alex

Kharan -> (8/31/2000 6:28:00 PM)

Would it be difficult to change infantry value to correspond unit cost? Crew value should definitely be 1/3 of the tank's value, to discourage people using them as scouts and cannon fodder. [This message has been edited by Kharan (edited August 31, 2000).]

Fredde -> (8/31/2000 6:36:00 PM)

A good point Kharan.. I agree. Trained tank crews should be way too expensive to use as recon/op fire drawing units etc. Perhaps difficult to code though :-)

Seth -> (8/31/2000 8:26:00 PM)

On a semi-related note, will we ever get kills for shooting down planes? I'd like to see the kill symbols differetiated, but that's probably a real bear.

Arralen -> (8/31/2000 8:30:00 PM)

Easy (partial) solutions: 1) Capturing equipment When in the repair/upgrade screen, press "country" and select the appropiate equipment from the other country for your force. Drawback: You'll get leaders according to that country, so you'll have to change names and stats with Fred's editor. 2) Expensive tank crews Set the "crew" unit to cost 15 using the OOB editor. Drawback: The AI will still use them as recon troops [This message has been edited by Arralen (edited August 31, 2000).]

Owl -> (8/31/2000 10:11:00 PM)

This may be slightly off topic, but one feature I'd find interesting to have in SP would be that you don't know more than hit or miss when you fire at a vehicle. You'd have to tell by observing whether you've killed or hurt it or not. A lot of fire power in WW2 was spent banging away at empty tanks. That would certainly limit the numbers of abandoned enemy vehicles around and bring the SPWaW battlefield closer to reality (don't want it much closer though, I can almost smell the cordite now).

Kharan -> (9/1/2000 1:16:00 AM)

Not that it has anything to do with this thread, but has anyone noticed in v2.3 that all low-level bombers take damage (1 point) from their own bombs, thus leaving after the first run?

Paul Vebber -> (9/1/2000 2:01:00 AM)

Its designed that way to make sure they "go home" after dropping their bombs. If a plane has no more "good" weps left, or fails a morale check after the first pass, they get the 1 damage point to make them "go away". Only "Ground Support Specialist" aircraft come back for multiple passes.

Kharan -> (9/1/2000 2:57:00 AM)

Is it really so strict, that only the Specialists (Ju-8g, Hs-129, IL-2 Shturmovik, P-39 Airacobra, B-25h Mitchell, IL-10 Shturmovik) can make more than one pass? A Yak-9T which has only machine guns and a cannon can only make one pass?
