vahauser -> You Choose for Me (3/20/2007 4:27:35 AM)

I've finally concluded that all Generated and Long Campaigns are way too easy, even after the first few battles. The computer is just too predictable and it is too easy to outmaneuver and create overwhelming killing zones even with 'minor allies'. Therefore, no more Generated or Long Campaigns for me.

Anyway, I'm thinking about playing the Enhanced Long Long Road campaign with one of the following:
Free French
Canadian
ANZAC

I will be using a modified Cataclysm/FlashFyre format (have to modify it a bit when playing a custom-designed campaign).

You tell me which nation (Free French, Canadian, or ANZAC) to use.

I can only use the nation you choose for all core and support forces.

Which nation do you choose for me?

Alby -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/20/2007 5:01:56 AM)

You cant use Free French, the campaign starts in North Africa in Oct 1942 against the French.
The Free French OOB isnt available yet.
have you ever tried it just as it is designed?
Turn off charteristics so the USA doesnt get that ridiculous .01 arty delay.
or dont use FO's
[:)]

BTW, I totally agree with you on this...

There are alot of Great Campaigns, all edited for Enhanced now, and they all are challenging and fun.
Someday i will get around to playing one thru other than Balkan Crisis and Watchword Freedom.....the only 2 I have played all they way thru.
Flash recently just redid "Operation 25" too.

I had to edit this 3 times until I finally spelled "Campaigns" right...

KG Erwin -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/20/2007 5:17:46 AM)

I got a better one for you, Vic. Play the "Screaming Eagles" Mega Campaign with your favored settings. Pick the 506th.

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/20/2007 5:20:12 AM)

Glenn,

I want to do this one first.  I'll take your suggestion after I do Long Long Road.

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/20/2007 5:21:00 AM)

Pick a nation for me:
Free French
Canadian
ANZAC

Alby -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/20/2007 5:52:15 AM)

once again I repeat, The FREE French oob is not available when this campaign starts.
I mean game wise.
The campaign starts Oct 42, Free French OOb starts Jan 43.

Okay, so I guess it comes down to:
Canadian or ANZAC

Pick one for me.

FlashfyreSP -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/20/2007 6:45:37 AM)

If you're going to demand a response from us, then my "vote" is for you to use the Canadians, since they will be at least "mostly" historical for the bulk of the campaign.

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/20/2007 6:51:38 AM)

FlashFyre,

Canadians it is then.  I was kind of hoping someobdy would choose the Canadians for me because I think the ANZAC is stronger in 1942 and so the Canadians will be a bit more challenging.  Also, I can build a more plausible back story for an independent Canadian battlegroup (I'll be calling it Group Anders) composed of former American immigrants to Canada and fighting alongside the Americans.  A bit of a stretch, for sure, but hey this is just for fun anyway.

I just edited the campaign and replaced the US Army flag with the Canadian flag. This will mean that the Canadians will be using Canadian artillery response times. I like this better than turning National Characteristics OFF.

[P.S. I have to use FOs because I play with C&C turned ON and I won't have enough orders to use my artillery without them. But changing the flag to Canadian solves this issue anyway.]

If campaigns are your thing, why not try winSPWW2?

More nations to choose from, a lot more options - using custom maps in your campaign, setting number of turns, placing induvidual VHs..., better AI...

And if that too is too easy - I'll buy, deploy, set waypoints and op-fire filter for the AI to make your campaign painful with a capital P.

I like the idea of placing individual VHs. Is the AI in winSPWW2 actually better than the one in SPWAW?

Quite simple really - point and click - you can modify the location, value and owner of any VH to suit your needs..., for battles, campaigns, PBEM...

I think it's safe to say yes... [:)]

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/22/2007 3:44:15 AM)

wulfir and Mac67,

I think I'll stick with SPWAW (Enhanced DVRN) for now.  I think this Canadian version of the Long Long Road campaign might be challenging.  If it turns out to be too easy, then I'll think about trying something different.

Alby -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/22/2007 5:32:53 AM)

Have you started yet?

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/22/2007 11:38:15 AM)

Alby,

I'm still studying the Canadian OOB trying to figure out a reasonable core.

Anybody care to suggest a Canadian core for me using Enhanced DVRN?

Alby -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/22/2007 4:33:48 PM)

The campaign itself calls for good balance of infantry and armor......

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/22/2007 7:03:19 PM)

Alby,

Yes it does.  And some support units will help too.  What did you have in mind?

Alby -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/22/2007 8:03:18 PM)

I dont know, i started to do the same campaign with Canada also and found some errors...damn it!!!
DOH...[:(]
see latest addtions to "known errors"
I will get back to you on what I use...

[:)]

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/22/2007 8:45:25 PM)

Alby,

Here is an idea for a Canadian core:

1x A0 (Colonel Anders)
3x tracked AOP
3x ammo boxes
6x jeeps
4x snipers
3x recce troops
2x engineer platoons
2x M5A1 platoons (for the engineers)
1x Ram II company, reduced (3 troops instead of normal 5)
3x 3" mortar sections
2x 25lbr sections
2x Light AAMG sections
1x Crusader I SPAA section
Total points = 2100

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Alby -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/22/2007 9:17:59 PM)

Looks good to me
altho I may use support points for ammo boxes and heavier arty instead of having them in core force. and also i will buy some 'regular' infantry units to go along with the enigneers, instead of having an all Engineer Infantry force.

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/23/2007 2:14:31 AM)

Alby,

Here is why I chose as I did:

Artillery) I know Wild Bill.  He will have some surprises.  If I have a little long-range artillery in my core, then it might actually hit something at long range once it gains some experience (say, in 1944).  Support artillery tends to be wildly inaccurate.  Hence my desire to have just a little bit of long-range artillery in my core.  In a Generated or Long Campaign I would never consider long-range artillery in my core (I only use medium mortars), but this is a Wild Bill campaign and it is way more difficult than a Generated or Long Campaign.

Ammo Boxes) Personal preference. It is as historically justifiable to buy ammo using support as it is to have ammo organic to the core.  However, I chose to go with organic ammo because I suspect that Wild Bill might toss in some battles with few or no support points available.

Regular Infantry) Canadian infantry is very weak in 1942.  For about half the price, those recce infantry hit almost as hard as regular Canadian infantry in 1942.  This was a cost-effectiveness decision for me (I only have a limited amount of core points to spend and I have to make every point count).  I do plan to upgrade the recce infantry at some point in the campaign (probably when the 'regular' infantry gets PIATs).

It's a shame you don't use Enhanced DVRN.  I'd really like to see your Canadian core. . .

Anybody else?  I'd like to see some Canadian cores that I can compare and consider as an alternative to the working model I have now.  How about it?

all good points, especially about Wild Bill......[:)]

What do you mean you wish I used Enhanced DVRN??
[&:]
DV and DVRN are exactly the same OOB wise.
Altho I will be using the set that has all those "fixes" applied.
[;)]

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/23/2007 4:51:49 AM)

Alby,

I thought you used a custom mech.exe and custom OOBs, right?

I wish you used non-customized Enhanced DVRN so I could see your Canadian core.

Alby -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/23/2007 4:56:01 AM)

No customized Mech, I use the same one that comes with Enhanced, and the oobs I use are not "custom" they are the same ones in DV and DVRN, i just have those 74 "fixes" applied.

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/23/2007 5:03:14 AM)

Alby,

Then show me your Canadian core.

Alby -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/23/2007 5:21:29 AM)

That almost sounded like a popular phrase from out at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway...
"Show me your Tits"
[:D]

I dont have one yet.... I been busy fixong my sister in laws piece of crap PC...
I will get around to it tomorrow i hope.

KG Erwin -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/23/2007 5:28:07 AM)

Why do you need this list, Victor? The forces themselves do not matter -- it's how they are used.

Look at my latest DAR -- no "power gaming" there. (I really HATE that term.) I'm fighting for my life, and have minimal reserves. I WILL win, but it won't be because of gamey tactics. It will be because of the bravery of my troops, and the support I can try to provide to them. Simply playing historical (in SPWaW terms) can provide you with all the drama you need. You seem incapable of understanding that.

vahauser -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/23/2007 5:48:09 AM)

Glenn,

And you seem to be incapable of understanding that I like group particpation.
I like it when more than one person is involved.
That is what I'm looking for, group participation.  I'd appreciate your participation, too.

--V

KG Erwin -> RE: You Choose for Me (3/23/2007 6:08:23 AM)

Group participation? Sounds too kinky for me. Picking Canadians? That's like dating your half-sister, isn't it? At least the Aussies are a bit more exotic.[;)]
