If the game goes to 1918, I think reading in other threads, maybe 1919 or 1920, how long are you able to produce troops? Doesn't have to be high quality troops, just troops in general? I would hope until at least 1916.

AFAIK you can keep producing troops forever - but their quality gets worse as you use up your best reserves, then your 2nd line, then your old men, then the cats and dogs....

If you keep producing units, I would imagine your production and agricultural capacity would suffer. The Germans actually went through this when they had to demobilize soldiers because their agricultural production decreased so low after taking to many workers off of the land. Also, their land productivity suffered because there weren't enough chemicals for fertilizer after the military needs were satisfied. There should be a point of diminishing returns if a country goes to far in mobilizing new units or reinforcing existing units, as well as the units becomming of a lower quality.

I remember reading that in November 1918, the German's "pool" of men, that is teenagers who became eligible to be conscripted by ager, were only like 200,000. It was a key consideration on Ludendorf's part in asking for an armistice.

As I understand it there are manpower limits - with limited extra troops added as the game goes on. I have certainly run out of manpower for the French in a long game before. The Germans managed to bleed the French white as they had planned at Verdun.

Running out of your first resetrves is indicated in the Strategic phase by an "exhausted" sliding bar - you have a manpower pol of "xyz" - when that is used up your bar becomes yellow instead of green with a nice red "exhausted -1" next to it.

I've seen Serbia and Turkey go to "Exhausted -2" with a red bar - that's when they get "E" grade units...and their "A" grade ones arent; that good to start with[:(]

I haven't noticed any effect on production - Serbia and the other minors don't get seperate production - instead they get random allocations of small numbers of points for leaders, replacements, trenches, etc.  And Turkey doesn't get much production at all so there isn't much to affect!

Well it sounds like there is some system within the engine that restricts the ability to simply churn out newly minted soldiers as fast as the player can throw a uniform on them. It may be a bit murky, but as long as it is a restraining factor with noticeably negative effects, all is good.

The other thing about churning out soldiers is that you have to spend resources equipping them.

So your new recreuits spend the same strategic resopurces that you could use to reinforce your frontline corps.

Pre-war mobilisation plans are exempt from this, however, so almost all nations get more corps arriving as programmed.

Can you capture more resources? Or build more?

SMK-at-work -> RE: Resource Pool on troops (3/28/2007 4:23:55 AM)

You can capture and make use of mines and grain/farm resources that are scattered around the map, but you get no more population/manpower.

Captured resources take time to come available - I haven't figured out what it is but they have a seperate entry in the accounting section of the Strategic report where you get told what you have got available.
