This is from my PBEM with AU Tiger. CHS 155 - AB extended map. Have I lost this task force? It seems to be in land hex.

Are you sure both of you are using the extended map? I've seen something like this posted b4 and seem to remember that one person hade the extended map and the player had the regular-sized AB map...

The screenshot is not showing on my screen but you can see it if you click on the attachment

I just hope they have paddles if that is the case - I will have to run a few more turns to see if continues on course or is lost to grounding

I also have the extended map in use, FYI.

Perhaps if you posted a screenshot with a wider view I might have a solution for you. [8D]

The map in WitP is actually two pieces. There is the map art, which is a set of 18 .bmp files that reside in the WitP/Art folder, and there is the wphex.dat file (found in the WitP root folder), which regulates movement. Someone is using either an correct pwhex.dat file or an incorrect set of map art files. This is a three-step process to fix.

1) Both players need to agree on what map they want to use. The map must be compatible with the scenario they are playing.
2) Both players need to make sure that all their TFs are in sea hexes. The TFs must all be in the clear before you do step 3.
3) After plotting movement, but before the IJ player executes the turn, both players should make sure that they have the correct map art and pwhex.dat files in the proper folders.

Even with the same map, strange things can happen - in the past, there have been errors in even "Vanilla" WITP map data, which led to people unloading units into the middle of the Pacific.

My personal "favorite" (not quite the same problem) is when i had a large convoy sailing from India to Oz, keeping well "west" of Java trying to avoid IJN long-ranged bombers... and it sailed off the edge of the map trying to avoid a sub!![X(] [8|] [:D]

WOW![:D] Did it come back? I have a situation just like that about to happen (i think).

Well, we decided not to try the experiment, and just did the turn over - it was a fairly large convoy, and important to my war efforts.

And the Bonehead of the Month award goes to.........ME!

I am also playing a stock game against someone else, and several turns ago I forgot to change to CHS before running my turn. Not realizing it might have a negative effect, I simply saved the file, exited, and restarted in CHS using the same turn.

We have corrected the problem by NCSUForest giving orders to his TF's to move to "safe" hexes, and I ran the turn with the stock map on purpose. It worked, but to my dismay a Div moved in China that turn to an enemy held hex that happened to be a river crossing in stock, but not in CHS. I figured that was the proper penance to be paid.

I took two attempts but I did get all my ships back in the water

All the more reason to have multiple installs and not try and change maps and things.
