KPAX -> IJN - FLT damage in port (4/12/2007 3:55:08 AM)

Is there some rule of thumb for saving an IJN ship with SYS and FLT damage ?

I have several ships sitting in ports without shipyards, that have SYS damage and FLT. It seems like the FLT damage keeps getting worse.

Exanple, I have CL Natori sitting in a port size 6, no shipyard. It had 61/15 SYS/FLT damage. two turns later it was 65/79 (2 day turns).

Is there some kind of rule of thumb that if it has >50 SYS damage and ANY FLT damage it keeps getting worse ?

What are folks doing when ships have this type of damage, racing for a Ship Yard ?

No. Find an AR somewhere to send there. The Natori's crew are failing their repair rolls; usually they make float damage go away...

I assume it's disbanded into the port, right? It should be.

Yes sir, it is .... [;)]

Problem is that IJN only has 1 AR at the beginning of the game. [&:]

ARs are in short supply but you have plenty of naval HQs. I saved many a ship in 1942 by fast transporting a naval HQ to a front line base.

You can convert large APs to AR. Well worth doing.

In my AAR vs. Wolfpack, I detail a monstrous effort to save CVL Shoho at Palmyra.  I moved supplies, a HQ unit and finally (like 10 days later) an AR.  Bottom line, the Flot damaged rose from about 55 to nearly 95 and then finally went down.  Took attention every turn for nearly three weeks but I saved her...

Supposedly, yes (by the rules), and from the *limited* experiments i've seen, yes.

I had a similar story with the Hiryu.  She made it to a level 3 port with 97 flot damage.  I was able to get an AR there as well as a Naval HQ.  I was able to save her too.

Another suggestion is to remove all other ships that have any damage.

I think you mean large AKs - when disbanded in Osaka of course

Yes...that's what I get for advising under the influence.

Excellent comment on the naval HQ. Had not thought of that.

Since IJN does not have a critical shortage of AKs at the beginning, and the fact of having a single AR, I did think it was wise to convert several AKs to AR. They come on line in a realatively short time (180 days).

You are trading the lack of say 6 AKs for 6 ARs, that seems pretty easy. Also, a converted AK seems worth saving even a single capital ship.

Aurelian -> RE: IJN - FLT damage in port (4/14/2007 3:36:23 PM)

I recently save the Akagi by sending two ARs to meet her at Ambonia. Now she's in the body and fender shop at Tokyo.

tsimmonds -> RE: IJN - FLT damage in port (4/14/2007 3:45:35 PM)

Can't have too many ARs...most recent game w converted 25-30 and accelerated most of them. After they all arrived we started another small batch.

IIRC we have 7 ports at level 9-10 with Naval HQs and 4 ARs. Most of them have decent repair yards too.
