October of '42.

I bring U.S. subs to S.F. for upgrade. However, I disband subs that show 'upgrade 4/42 or 10/42' and leave them disbanded and they don't upgrade. It still shows 'upgrade 4/42' etc...do they have to repair all the way to zero to move the update for that vessel to the next year or next update?

Thanks

Gibbons

Ships need to have a sis damage of 5 or less to upgrade, so damaged ships will not upgrade unitl they are nearly fully repaired. Your subs should upgrade when there sis damage drops to a low enough level. You don't have to bring them in on the date of the upgrade, any time after will do as long as there is a repair yard present and sufficient supplies available.

I think upgrade are culmalative so if you miss one it doesn't matter, the ship will just sustain more sys damage as a result of a "larger" upgrade.

Sometimes ships don't upgrade until their damage gets below the 5 thresh hold.  I've noticed this is true more for larger ships though.

In any case, you need to leave them there so they repair the damage some before they will upgrade.

How long do upgrades usually take...for example please?
Thanks

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

So you don't have to move ships to S.F. for upgrades, but just to a base with repair facilities and enough supplies? I've been sending subs from India to S.F. to upgrade, this would save a great deal on time.

Thanks again.

Upgrades occur at bases with repair shipyards (those are rather few) and do occur immediately when they happen. However, the upgrade increases the sys damage of the ship being ungraded. So, in effect, what you will see is that after a few weeks your sub in SF that was disbanded with 34 sys damage will have worked it's way down to 4 sys damage, only to upgrade and jump back to, say, 15 sys damage. The time it takes to reduce this damage is considered to be the time it takes to perform the upgrade, but you could take the ship out immeidately and put it into action with the upgraded systems operable - the ship will be operating with substantial sys damage if you do so.
