dutch08 -> Grrr... (4/22/2007 4:30:15 PM)

I'm enjoying the new CoI campaign. I'm basically trying to hold off a hord of Russian tanks with some AT guns.

One thing that really kills me is my AT gun's will train in on one target (troops) while a much jucier target (tank) will roll up from behind some buildings and knock my gun out. Now, I'm glad my gun is taking out the infantry, but I try to get the gun to "disengage" so I can redirect it's attention to the tank that's about to make it a bad day, but no dice. The only thing I can think of is to just pick a spot in that direction and make it waste ammo until the tank gets there.

Anyway, I'm sure there's a way to disengage from the enemy with a gun and redirect it's attention to where the new threat will soon be. The problem is that it takes a gun a while to turn, but by the time it's turned (say 45 degrees), the quick turret of the tank will be trained in and putting my gun to bed before I ever get a shot off.

Any suggestions?

Sometimes putting ATG on "ambush" will discourage it from blasting away at the wrong target...but of course you must micromanage it a bit. Setting the arc in the proper direction doesn't always keep it there either.  But happily I think the guns usually work well on "defend." So I hide the guns on ambush, and when a fat target gets in range I switch them to defend and they shoot.

I do the same...leave them on ambush, and just before the tanks get in range or in range swtich to defend. If it's a map where it's tight(the set up is key) I start them out on defend so I don't get any of those quick shots to knock out my AT as soon as the action starts. They are usually very good on defend but if I want certain targets in my own order I manually direct fire on what ever tank or AT gun I want.

To me the important thing is the set-up of the AT guns before the action even starts. You can get an idea from looking at the shades(dark are hot spots) of the map to where you need to have them face to start and also key is the cover. Don't underestimate where you place them ,take your time with that. A well placed AT gun will survive a long time and pick off tanks one by one.
