Now that the release of this re-release/compilation is (fast?) approaching, is it possible to have a list of some of the additions and alterations that have been made, in addition to new screenshots

I second this request. The decision on whether I buy this game or not will be based solely on what changes have been made to the underlying engine. Screenshots are fine, but we need to know the details of what's been done to the engine.

I’ve only ever played the original solo and would only play this title solo as well, so the changes made under the hood are what I need/want to know about.

I third the request. I'll probably still buy it, but I wanna know.

No "official" response as yet.

Which could mean that the devs want to keep the changes a secret for now. Or, there are no changes, beyond the addition of lots of new units.

I do hope that it is the former because although I enjoyed East and West Front nine years ago, even a huge amount of the same thing would not be sufficient inducement for me to return to that old and venerable system.

Personally, I find it difficult to return to the old IGO/UGO routine after the joys of WEGO, a la Combat Mission. Having said that I also think that the Platoon level of Campaigns is perhaps the best way to portray WW2 battles, while still retaining a strong tactical edge.

CM is a chore, and doesn't work well, with battles larger than a Battalion. This imposes strict limitations on the sorts of historic battles that can be re-fought in a reasonably realstic manner.

Systems that work at the company/battalion level tend to lose the tactical flavour, often completely. So, for me, the level is spot-on, provided the engine has had a make-over.

I'm not expecting WEGO but a more robust AI is fairly essential and it would be nice to have armoured HQs fighting in tanks rather than jeeps or staff cars!

So, I'm still hopeful that Campaigns is at least a bit "next generation" because there ain't too many platoon-level games out there.

Jason - did you manage to get the Commaders for campaigns fixed ? I have great fun using the Commanders in scenarios and miss them in the campaigns.

I do not believe so, not for the initial release. We do intend on fully supporting the game, of course, and in turn will be releasing updates regularily.

Take care and good luck

When the game goes "gold", an official response will be released.
