David Heath -> Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 8:56:06 PM)

Hi Everyone

Here is the final release information on UFO: ET with some important changes. The game will only be available from Matrix Games / Tri Synergy in North America (United States, Canada, Mexico and any U.S. Territories (Puerto Rico, Guam etc.). We are sorry for this late change but we only just recently been made aware of this new restriction from the European publisher. We are sorry for any problems this might have caused our overseas customers.

Matrix will be releasing the game for digital download Friday May 4th at 00:01 A.M. or easier said one minute passed midnight tonight. The Matrix / Tri Synergy release will be using our own serial number system and NOT the Starforce system. Remember this is a large download (1.8 gigs) so anyone downloading it may want to use a download optimizer / download manager. Matrix recommends the free version of StarDownloader. If you are not sure what StarDownloader does it explains it very well on the main page of the web site.

Our Game On Demand version will also be available for at the same time as the digital download version is available. Our Game On Demand version is our boxed product that is shipped from our warehouse and come in a DVD Case with full color sleeve, three CD's with full color labels and a printed manual. The Game On Demand should start shipping around May 18th. Remember if you order a Game On Demand you can download our digital version immediately at the time of your order and start playing right away as your box version wings its way towards you.

The North American retail release will be available around the week of May 21 at EB Games and GameStop stores. Check with Tri Synergy for information on other retailers.

Everyone, please make note of the above. It contradicts what I said earlier - that was what I knew then, but things unfortunately changed due to some contractual restrictions we were not aware of until today. My personal apologies to those outside these territories who were planning to order from us, we're as disappointed as you are. Fortunately, there are other options out there.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 9:17:55 PM)

ffs[8|]

Hertston -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 9:18:11 PM)

So those of us in Europe won't be able to buy the game until the box release here (whenever that is), complete with Starfarce?

It doesn't cause a 'problem'. Just a lost sale, unless somebody can suggest a Starfarce and e-license free 'other option'.

crm114 -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 9:19:42 PM)

I've scoured the site but can't find anything... maybe I'm just blind but:

How much is the game going to cost?

Temple -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 9:21:33 PM)

Sorry for all you non-NA's who won't be able to get it tonight. Really a bummer [:(][:(][:(]

Erik Rutins -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 9:24:47 PM)

Paradox is also releasing it tomorrow - believe me, we wanted to be able to offer it to you. Our method has always been to make our downloads available globally. In the past, there hasn't been this restriction on digital downloads, but Paradox apparently got concerned about it today and after discussing it we had to make the restriction for this title. In any case, I believe they will have it available for digital download for customers outside the territories we are allowed to sell it to.

The download price is US $39.99, $49.99 for both download now and boxed copy shipped later.

Regards,

- Erik

Thanks, Erik.

Rasit -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 9:26:03 PM)

I am working in USA for my company for at least a month forward, but my credit card is issued in Sweden.

How do you determine if you can sell it or not, by IP address or by where the credit/debit card was issued? And if I were to use a (local) friends card to buy it, will I still be able to redownload it once I get back home?

You have been so forthcoming with your support that I definitely want to buy it from your company. The European distributor can go and *beep* themself, they ought to compete by quality of service or don't compete at all.

Please tell me you are kidding. It's some kind of crap joke...must be...because I thought developers had got the message about Starforce....

U r kidding right? [&o]

Starforce is the publishers decision usually.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 10:14:20 PM)

I know that. I was asking if it did have it on? It was in responcse to what Hertson said, who seemed to think that was the case...I was asking  [8|] if anyone knew if this was the case (particularly Hertson).

I cannot believe this ****...I really can't.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 10:14:27 PM)

We are looking into the other questions here together with our store. I believe the way our store restriction works is based on the billing and shipping address, but we'll get more info on that for those with unusual situations.

tizubythefizo -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 10:17:49 PM)

was this a reply to my post Erik? If so,wrong thread, lol.

Glad I'm checking anything that pops up bold when I hit the refresh button :-p

I really want to give you my money(in exchange for a game of course...can't just be giving away that hard earned money I get from the tax payers....including myself as I pay taxes,in effect paying my own salary O.o)

It was merely a deduction from David's comment that

quote:

Why mention it unless someone will be using it?

Having looked around it seems Paradox are selling DD via Gamersgate at the same time as Matrix. No Starfarce, but presumably e-licensing of some sort. I think I'll just try that freeware version instead.

Terminus -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 10:29:23 PM)

If it's infested with Starforce or sold via GamersGate then buh-bye... Both are abominations against nature...[sm=vomit-smiley-020.gif]

as a first time prospective gamersgater, whats the problems with using them ?

i`m a few clicks away from opening an account.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 10:32:17 PM)

Terminus - go away. No offense, but wherever you post, the thread degrades into a shambles [;)]

I have only used them one time.

  • You have to use their download system which require .Net 2.0.
  • Slow Downloads, the problem might have been at my end.
  • Slow support when I had problem with billing.
  • Judging from posts on the Sword of the Stars main forum they have to prepare patches on their end. Apparently even Direct2Drive was quicker then them when it came to patching SotS. <<< Dealbreaker for me.

That's what we in the trade call an unfair generalization...[:-]

Serian -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 10:46:56 PM)

Eric or David,

What time zone is the 12:01 AM release going to be?

Do you know if the Tri Synergy release is on CD or DVD and whether the disc will be needed in the drive to play the game?

Thanks!

DarthPrincey -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 10:49:27 PM)

How long is the restriction on Matrix selling game in europe going to last.e.g. 6 months? or forever?

I'll prob but it from Gamers Gate now so I can play on relaese but would consider buying it again from Matrix if patches, support etc are quicker and better. Also I would like to own a CD copy of game which I am notsure if GG are doing.

otaku -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 10:52:56 PM)

i have buy one game from the gamers gate:

- first you must download a downloadmanager
- download the game (500 MB in 2 Hours) very slow for my dsl [>:]
-you became a reg.key and install it ok for the next three times (e-licensing) [:(]

ps you must not online for the installation

DarthPrincey -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 10:55:57 PM)

Also, did your original distribution deal really not include Europe? Seeing as you have a UK site I would have thought you would have ensured the original deal included UK as well?

David Heath -> RE: Important UFO Release Date, Time and Available Territories (5/3/2007 11:01:53 PM)

Hi Everyone

Look please restain from calling anyone out.  If its needed our Mods, Erik or myself will take care of it.
