Accipiter -> Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 3:40:17 AM)

I've been checking out some of the changes in level 7 and was wondering if any this is intentional or possible bugs:

1 - While playing the EOS, I tried to change a small transport group (the 4th Hikodan HQ T Unit) from Home Defense to any other HQ. The PP cost was 16 and I start with an excess of 100 but no options for new HQ showed up to change. I ran a turn (thinking that maybe they just couldn't be changed on turn 1) and still couldn't change it even with 1609 PP available. I also tried with several other AC units in the 2nd turn and no options appear under the 'Choose New HQ' panel.

2 - The second AC TF that is suppose to go from Kwal to just to the east of Hawaii on turn one only makes it a few hexes instead even when I put the mission speed to full. The same occurs with several transport groups. Are they only suppose to go part way or are they suppose to make it all the way to Hawaii to help support the invasion?

3 - Thus far, I've been unable to locate any Garrison requirements in China. Has garrisoning been removed or is garrison something that only occurs in hexes that the EOS still needs to conquer in China?

4 - The transport groups moving from the Home Islands to Hawaii don't appear to have any air cover and they are moving through the area that Allied CVs are at. It would appear they will be slaughtered without some sort of CV TF covering them and the planned Hawaii invasion will be doomed before it even begins.

The version is v7.68 RHSEOS

Probably you have failed a test in code - they are undocumented mostly. If your unit - or its HQ - lacks supply - you may not be allowed to act.

This is difficult - and it will change again in x.69. They either go too far or not far enough. I am returning to their historical assignment - and they will go to the Johnson Island area. It opens an opportunity for an aggressive USN player to hunt uncovered TFs - but so be it. The TFs starting in Japan are supposed to take time to reach the area - while the air power is reduced.

3 - Thus far, I've been unable to locate any Garrison requirements in China. Has garrisoning been removed or is garrison something that only occurs in hexes that the EOS still needs to conquer in China?

I don't know how you can measure that? But if I could I would remove it. I don't think it can be done - hard code. I made China strong enough failure to garrison should bring automatic penalties - in enemy action!

4 - The transport groups moving from the Home Islands to Hawaii don't appear to have any air cover and they are moving through the area that Allied CVs are at. Yep - that is what I tried to address with the CVL group - but I cannot set it up automatically in the scenario - and they don't understand my intent.

Bliztk -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 8:40:27 AM)

Take note that Level 7 is not as bug-errata-else free like Level 6 or 5. It will take us a few versions until the things are streamlined

el cid again -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 11:59:30 AM)

Bliztk found 4 pages of location errors and 8 pages of ship errors = about 720 lines of problems in Level 7 CVO.
I integrated those for 18 scenarios - that is checking 12,960 records - and found about 40% of them were wrong in some sense (not always a way that a player would notice - or would notice only insofar as eliminating them will speed turn execution). I myself found additional errors by running tests and checking certain things - or because adding things forced me to become aware of certain records - perhaps another 80 lines worth - for about 800 total lines (which required checking 14,400 records). I am on my last 60 lines of checking now - and so from x.69 level it will be that all scenarios (levels 5, 6 and 7) will be at the same error level - and all of them better than anything in the past. x.70 is for a few technical changes - and any eratta that may turn up - but it isn't eratta oriented. x.69 is eratta oriented - and it is almost done. I found that there were about 800 records with problems in Level 7 scenarios and about 50 records with problems in Levels 5 and 6 scenarios (not always the same records in these latter cases). Since Blitzk will run utilities on x.69- and since I will run dynamic tests - we should catch almost everything when we freeze development at x.70. Another thing x.70 is likely to have is different ship art pointers - as new art not yet available will become available. [We added a British seaplane carrier - rare - and a South African frigate class]

el cid again -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 12:36:16 PM)

I confirm four different problems in all Level 7 scenarios. This pretty much has to be related to the cam files - which may be corrupted (they may pre date RHS data corruption issues). I have been able to load and run Levels 6 and 5 on the Level 7 pwhex and maps - and so can say difinitively these do not cause 3 of the problems. The fourth - an allegedly missing button -- is one I never knew about - and it exists in no version of RHS at this time. That may be a separate issue. But I should be able to fix the other three problems by rebuilding cam files.

el cid again -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 1:01:07 PM)

I do not see a Zone Control Button in stock, CHS or any level of RHS. What is it? When was it created?

I do not see China garrison requirements in stock, CHS or any level of RHS. I know how it is defined - but what makes it appear?

I do see Soviet Garrison requirements or stance in stock, CHS and RHS levels 5 and 6.

I do see transfer of command in stock, CHS and RHS levels 5 and 6. I dimly remember something about command assignments can be made impossible by a HQ issue - but I don't remember what it was.

Accipiter -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 1:49:44 PM)

In my current RHSEOS game at v.5.13, the garrisons requirement in China are shown.  I remember this very distintly as at Chengting which starts with over 900 RC was vastly under garrisoned on turn 1 (273/480) and before I could get troops there, partisan activity had reduced it to 624.  In v7.68, I moved nothing in to that hex (and has the same starting unit there as in 5.13) and suffered no partisan attacks.

el cid again -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 8:52:22 PM)

The cam file is easy to create - and it machts nichts to our problems. That means this issue is almost certainly in the location file. That is a nightmare - unless we can find offending records. Each location file is vastly different - by hundreds of records - and it takes time to build a new one. However, I can test quickly with a different one and determine if that is the issue (allowing Australia and New Zealand and Panama to be in the wrong places, and Madagascar to be empty).

I do not see any china garrison requirement in stock, CHS or RHS - what affects this field? And what is a partisan attack?
You mean something besides RHS (actually CHS modified) guerilla regiments?

Bliztk -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 9:11:16 PM)

It`s the .cam corruption I think.

Start CVO level 7, click on intelligence tag (I) you will NOT see nothing about soviet activation. Exit window, click on Shangai, under fortifications, you will see nothing too

Start CVO level 6, clink on intelligence and you will see "Manchuoko Garrison : Soviets Active", click on Shangai and you will see Garrison 1348/427 in green

el cid again -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 9:17:06 PM)

Nope. Run the game with a cam file from Level 5 or 6 - it only differs in a trivial way from Level 7 so it is easy to do - and the problem is still present. I think it is location file. Will test.

el cid again -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 10:01:03 PM)

I am officially confused.

The SAME location file works in Level 6 but not in level 7.

I do not like the implications of this. It takes me back to the cam file. A change in the cam file - and there are almost none of these - is likely the issue. And the only meaningful change is the column/row settings. Changing that messes up the art/location scheme.

el cid again -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 10:50:30 PM)

I confirm this analysis: the issue is the cam file column and row settings. This can be fixed - it will only affect the Madagascar mini map (probably) by one row. It is amazing - but it matters (for command changes and for Soviet status) - strange.

el cid again -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/16/2007 10:56:25 PM)

Got it. We can have 150 rows - but only 149 columns. Since we were not using column 150 - no problem.

Here is a screen shot from v5.14

And here is one from v7.68

Accipiter -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/17/2007 3:55:36 AM)

Looking at those screenshot a little quicker, it appear that in v7.68 starts with computer control instead of human and that may be what's not allowing HQ changes and not showing the garrison requirements. I'll double check my settings to be sure.

Accipiter -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/17/2007 4:05:48 AM)

Nothing unusual about my settings I can find, so this looks like a major bug to me.

Accipiter -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/17/2007 4:18:06 AM)

Nevermind the above, it looks like the bugs were squashed v7.69

I'm really impressed that this got fixed so fast. KUDOs!![&o][&o]

CobraAus -> RE: Possible Bugs in Level latest Level 7 RHSEOS (5/17/2007 4:32:49 AM)

ok there are a number of messages both in mail and on the forums this morning about certain functions not working in level 7
now that I have caught up I have had a look at each of the 4 issues using v7.69 scenrios and the v7.79 PWHEX file
looking at each scenario from the allied sreens and the japanese screens
1 issue 1 cant change HQ, nothing to point to on panel
on test for both sides NO FAULT FOUND, if I had enough PP I had HQ's that I could change to the panels were not blank
2 issue 2 no button for ZONE of CONTROL MAP
(Sid this button has always been there - it is used to bring up a misc map panel showing the 6 zones of computer control that the player can select so the the player does not have to look after the selected zone - the AI does (very few would use it))
again after testing for both sides NO FAULT FOUND the button was there and selectable
3 issue 3 indication on Intel screen that Soviets are active not there
on test NO FAULT FOUND if Soviets are active for the Scenario IT IS SO INDICATED at bottom left of panel
4 issue 4 Garrison requirements for Japanese in China not appearing (Sid again this has always been on screen as two numbers in two colors)

on test NO FAULT FOUND Garrison Requirments for Japanese was indicated at all bases in China that I looked at

It look like v7.69 has done the trick and fixed these issues

a tester does not really need to read the code - you put a box around the problem and change things until they go away

not that there are not hard code limits - we have plenty of those

but IF the code will do it - we can make it happy - that is what integraters do
