Yogi the Great -> RE: Come on Matrix...Promote your games (5/24/2007 4:14:15 PM)

Ok, not sure if this is a good fit for the thread, or that I can make it sound like it makes sense, but here goes: I think the reason many of us are on this forum (and some of the other game company forums) is that we in general can't find the games we like at retail or even some of the big internet sellers. We are "wargamers" or "strategy gamers" and to be blunt, we are just not mass market material. You need to be high graphics, shoot-ups, large busted characters, heavy sound effects etc. to be that. We find our way here in some way, either the marketing the company does on sites we might visit, perhaps a few ads, internet search would be a big one, game reviews, or word of mouth through forums etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is, whatever marketing Matrix did, somehow got us here. While it might be nice for them and others to market more, that is also more expense and higher price for the game. Back to the last paragraph, it also may not be money well spent, as the customer market base for these "special interest games" is just not that high, and the additional purchases not enough to make up for it. The good news, we can be a great special interest group, finding our games from serious developers and exchanging thoughts on forums. We are above [;)] the crowd in that we are swayed by history, tactics, strategy, thought and quality over glitz glamour, sound, graphics, hype and boobs. (maybe we should leave that last one in there [:D]) In short, the marketing done is probably a logical match for the type of product. On the other hand, I could be full of crap.
