wobbly -> Where O where have my little planes gone? (5/24/2007 2:24:20 AM)

I have done the usual trawl through the forums but the search engine seems beyond my meagre skill to find what I am after.

There appears to be an ongoing issue with splitting air units between two locations.
When you fly the mother unit to a location, leaving planes and pilots behind because the aircraft are damaged, often the number of aircraft in the unit starts to dwindle.
I can't seem to get a handle on why it is occuring but I am suspicious of the number of pilots.
When one of the units does not have enough pilots to fly the planes, the numbers seem to go down.
I don't appear to be losing the planes (op losses or the like) but a full unit, split between two locations, suddenly requires replacements during the following and subsequent turns.

Any ideas why this 'feature' is in place?

Are the dwindling damage planes actually showing up in the new location of the mother unit?  This is what I think is supposed to happen:  rather than the damaged units becoming repaired at the daughter unit, as they are repaired they automatically shuffle to the mother unit's new location.

I'm not sure how automatic the shuffling is. When I transfer AC by flight across the pacific I end up with little daughter units everywhere...come to think of it, I'm gonna have to have the unit chaplin talk to the pilots about that. [:D]

Seriously does the automatic transfer feature work in this game?

Yes, but I generally do it myself anyway.

I move units manually. I also try not to do it unless all aircraft are flight ready. This can not always be done.

I have no problem with it at all. Do it nearly every turn lately in my older game. Move units off the front lines and then when their damaged aircraft repair, they join up. I havent noticed any problem at all.

Of course I could just be really unobservant...

Oh - they move ok (or at least the used to)... sometimes it is a P.I.T.A. - you put some planes at base 1 to transfer them next turn to an intermediate base (base 2) that will be in range where the parent unit is (base 3)... and the AI will often transfer the fragment to another base (which is out of range of both the base 2 and base 3, but closer to the parent than base 1) [8|] ... a real pain in trying to collect fragments across the South Pacific.

I wait until the fragments catch up before moving the parent from the intermediate base.

No, the OP is correct. Some planes do migrate away. Pilots also. Its something I am trying to track down even as we speak. And it isnt limited to air units that have been divided either. I cant get a repeatable occurance as yet though.
