Erik Rutins -> Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 4:25:37 AM)

Hey folks,

It will be "officially official" tomorrow with a press release, but it's up on our public FTP now. Feel free to grab it and get a head start:

ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/ForgeofFreedom/ForgeofFreedom-Update-v1923.zip

I'll attach the change list to the next post.

Drex -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 4:26:17 AM)

I'm on my way!

PaulWRoberts -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 4:29:49 AM)

Yes!  And many thanks.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 4:30:51 AM)

Here's the change list, enjoy.

Johnus -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 4:36:00 AM)

Erik:

I can update without killing my present campaign, right ??

Gil R. -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 4:37:35 AM)

Yes, unless you're still playing 1.23 (or whatever that December patch was called).

ChuckK -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 5:27:54 AM)

Ha! And I don't even have to call in sick tomorrow--this time I've already got the day off!

Klahn -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 9:15:18 AM)

Quick question:

When I'm using "sergeant" difficulty level with no power bonus to either side, the AI confederacy is getting a combat bonus on the attack report for "difficulty level."  This didn't happen before I patched as far as I know.  Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

edit: The AI is getting a difficulty advantage even on the "tutorial" difficulty level. Is this happening to everyone or is mine corrupt for some reason?

Walloc -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 1:47:19 PM)

I just tested and saw same. I assume its a bug too.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

To clarify, do gamers need to have the v1.2.3 patch installed before applying this new (v.1.9.23) patch. or is this considered a comprehensive patch for the original download/CD versions?

Erik Rutins -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 4:42:59 PM)

The 1.9.23 update is for ALL previous versions of Forge of Freedom. No other patches required.

Gil R. -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 6:22:30 PM)

This business of "Sergeant" difficulty and its impact is NOT, repeat NOT, a bug. There is an error in the manual in which the bonuses are one level off from what the manual says. This was reported soon after release and discussed at the time (though obviously it was a while ago).

(Mr. Z, if this is not in your list of manual errata it probably should be.)

michaelincolorado -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 6:28:56 PM)

Gil; thanks for clarification - I missed the earlier post - to play with no bonuses then the level to use is Sergeant?

That much has been determined I think, but the question posed in other threads is the AI "neutral" level for HW play. Seems to be some confusion or bug related to that part of the difficulty settings, as the AI gets positive Diff. adjustments all the way down to the tutorial level.

ericbabe -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 7:36:13 PM)

It does seem that the difficulty bonus is being applied to varying degrees even at the lower levels -- I'm surprised no one has reported this before.  Will fix.

cesteman -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 9:13:25 PM)

Another patch?

Erik Rutins -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 9:14:43 PM)

At some point down the road, sure, but not imminently. This is not a critical issue though and the official update is a huge step forward as is.

cesteman -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 9:55:21 PM)

Thanks for the info.

PaulWRoberts -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 11:26:51 PM)

So what's the most balanced (no bonus) option for play against the AI?  Sergeant still?

Erik Rutins -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/29/2007 11:34:20 PM)

Yes, Sergeant is the level where the only bonus the AI currently gets is a slight detailed battle casualty bonus. No other bonuses to the AI and none to the human player.

What I'm saying is that the AI is getting a bonus even at Sergeant and below. That was not happening before this patch. I'm aware that the manual is incorrect when it lists "First Sergeant" as the no bonus difficulty level.

edit: nevermind, it looks like it got sorted out.

/me needs to read the whole thread before I post. [:-]

That would be Sergeant, yes. There are 0 economic bonuses at the Sergeant level, and only very small amounts of AI bonuses being applied at the Sergeant level in HW.

ericbabe -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/30/2007 2:23:42 AM)

The detailed combat code is the same now as it was before the patch.  Before the patch we didn't have a detailed combat attack report, so I should think it would have been very hard for players to detect the relatively small AI damage bonus.

Speaking of which, the Advanced Report (detailed combat attack report) still does not have any documentation that I could find to help explain to the game players how to read it. (Unless somewhere I missed it in the new .23 release). I could not find anything in the ReadMe.pdf or the ReadMe.txt

Was the detailed combat attack report in the beta patch though? I know I've seen it before. (It was how I figured out the manual was wrong initially.)

Gil R. -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/30/2007 6:58:54 AM)

Yes, the attack report was definitely in the public beta patches. So that's what you meant?

I agree with Erik that this is a relatively minor issue, so there's no need to rush out a new patch that fixes just that.

Klahn -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (5/30/2007 9:07:11 AM)

Yep. That's what I was getting at. I'm pretty sure the issue wasn't in the latest beta patch. I've always used the attack reports in detailed battles in the beta and I'm certain I would have noticed if it had been a problem there. I do agree that it's a very minor issue and doesn't require an "emergency" type fix. I just wanted to point it out.

desertstorm -> RE: Official 1.9.23 Update Available (11/2/2007 10:06:23 PM)

Hallo Erik, i have changed my user name and my eMail adress. With the new eMail adress i can not new register my FOF and so i can not download the Beta-Patch.
I send three messages to the Matrix-Support, but no answer.
Can you help?
