showboat1 -> CHS Mod Question (5/29/2007 5:15:51 AM)

I've been considering switching over to this mod but don't anyone personally that uses it. Could I get a little feedback on the preferences between it and the stock game?

bradfordkay -> RE: CHS Mod Question (5/29/2007 5:27:14 AM)

I have been playing the CHS for a couple of years. The pace of operations is slower than in stock for numerous reasons.

The size of your AKs has been reduced, requiring more of them to support offensives. This reduces the number of offensives that can take place at any one time.

4E bomber replacement numbers have been greatly reduced for the B17s and LB30s, so there's no early war capability to create the uber 4E death star.

For the allies at least, there are no air groups, they are all squadrons. I find that I like this as it makes it far easier to use smaller bases.

One downside is when playing against the AI. Some of the base sizes have been altered, and this apparently (according to a post by Mike Wood) has affected a couple of bases the AI relies upon for replenishing major combat TFs. This tends to cause a stagnation of the AI's offensives somewhere between May and August of '42.

I started using CHS when it came out and I've never gone back.  I just restarted after getting to mid august 42.  Ran into the NikMod damaged planes problem.  It is a wonderful scenario.

Using scen 157 {the NikMod version}, the AI was doing well.  It took Singapore in March, Philippines in May.  Java fell in June or July.  It was working on Timor when I stopped playing.  It took Bougainville but got no further in the Solomans.

It did have a problem with Hong Kong.  The AI doesn't send enough troops.  When I restarted {Scen 155}, I tried to help things along.  I reduced Hong Kong Fortifications to 0 from an original 4.  It fell on Dec 8.  Maybe drop it down to 2 or 1 would make it fall near historical time.

I made a few other DB changes.  Halved the the Aircraft guns accuracy.  I don't know if this will work to reduce A2A bloodiness.  I added a couple pilots.....my father-in-law, my neighbor {flew with the Flying Tigers}, and James Kirk flying with the Enterprise Fighter squadron.

It's a great scenario.  You won't go back to stock.

CHS 157 (and 158) contains Nikmod a2a changes only just to clarify. Device accuracy halving for the guns is an important aspect of the reduction. It's been standard in NM since version 4.0. Version 9.0 reduced it further still.

157/158 have been updated to 9.1 for A2A. Andrew should be posting it soon. We had some email snafu's which has delayed it's posting.

I think I have those snafus sorted, and should have the revised versions up soon. A BIG thanks to Nik for revising the scenarios.

Will that revised 157/158 change a game-in-progress or will it only affect a new game?

Nikademus -> RE: CHS Mod Question (5/29/2007 6:54:26 PM)

unfortunately, no. OOB data is loaded at the start of every game from the SCEN data but is then stored/accessed via the save game files from then on.
