watchtower -> WitP = Wargame crack (5/29/2007 7:44:15 PM)

Hi people. Not been here in a fair long while as had to put gaming on hold for a year whilst real life had to take over. I recently moved house and now I have my own gaming room and have only just now found the time to play a few computer games. I had saved a few up that had downloaded but not played. These were, Flashpoint Germany, Cross of iron and UFO. After playing about with each for a week or so WitP has found its way back on the computer with the new update. Now I remember why I physically removed it from the machine a year or so ago. This game is computer wargame crack. I'm addicted all over again and apart from a bit of the UFO game (now I got the mods working - jeeze!!) I have been playing WitP exclusively with that same old terrible addiction I thought I had broken - Help!!!

Apart from keeping you up all night, at least it won't rot your teeth like crack. [:D]

It will if he gets so involved he forgets to floss.

Ian R -> RE: WitP = Wargame crack (5/29/2007 8:38:18 PM)

Has anyone taken a laptop on a long plane flight and played witp (or something equally time consuming?)

Does it make the hours zip by?

Past xmas, got stuck in Denver for a long weekend. Found an outlet in the airport and didn't move out of my chair for 16 hours.... Discovered how mind numbing the game can be.

Yeah strike that. I couldn't feel anything from the armpits down. Had to stop 'cause my vision blurred.

treespider -> RE: WitP = Wargame crack (5/30/2007 1:16:51 AM)

If WitP vs AI= Crack

then

WitP vs PBEM = Crack, Vegas, Martini Lunches, Meth, Potato Chips, Chips Ahoy etc. all put together...

Terminus -> RE: WitP = Wargame crack (5/30/2007 1:19:52 AM)

And then when you go into WitP modding... Just forget about it...[:D]

I don't know about the plane rides, but I take my laptop with me on trips/vacations so my wife has the usual view on back

bradfordkay -> RE: WitP = Wargame crack (5/30/2007 5:44:54 AM)

I've taken my laptop with me on several trips. Infortunately, the battery will only run about an hour with WITP running (almost twice that if I'm just dealing with the internet), so I can't use on for the whole flight. I did start a new CHS game a few years ago as I was flying into Oahu - I thought that the symbolism of running the Dec 7 turn at that time was too cool to pass on...

Last thanksgiving I was stuck in an airport for a few hours when my flight was delayed and WITP kept me sane...

rockmedic109 -> RE: WitP = Wargame crack (5/30/2007 7:18:24 AM)

All I have now is a laptop.....a good one though.  Take it with me everywhere.  I've played turns at Maui, Oahu, Kona, Panama City {FL}, Portland, LA, San Diego, and just about everywhere within two hours drive of Sacramento.  Never played ON a plane though.  Battery doesn't last long.

Gonna go to China for 2 weeks next year.  Anybody know if the power outlets there fit ours?  Anybody know if the power grid there is safe for laptop?  Worried about surges damaging my laptop.

msaario -> RE: WitP = Wargame crack (5/30/2007 7:05:10 PM)

On my intercontinental business trips witp has been a real joy, my flights (if the battery holds or I have power) feel almost too short, and being jet lagged at a hotel at 4 am is a true joy -> 3-4 hours of pure witp.

Shhh don't tell the company I installed a game on the laptop (without admin rights)....

The only complaint is that it is sluggish after my home computer.

msaario -> RE: WitP = Wargame crack (5/30/2007 7:06:55 PM)

Oh, one more thing, I also played while my wife was driving (coming back from a ski resort). I feels a bit odd to have a laptop open, especially if the airbag goes off!

Jam_USMC -> RE: WitP = Wargame crack (5/30/2007 8:34:26 PM)

I agree that Witp has some addictive qualities. But why attach the negative connotations of illicit drug use to such a beatiful thing?

I prefer this view: WITP is my now my religion. The Matrix pastors and deacons continue to support and guide me. My daily fellowship with the Congregation of Forum Contributors who worship by my side are a true inspriration to all Wargaming-kind. May PC be with you. et. al, egro, etc., amen. [&o]

Terminus -> RE: WitP = Wargame crack (5/30/2007 8:36:50 PM)

Oh dear, religion and narcotics... That just begs an acidic comment... But I'm not going to make it, for the sake of forum peace.

Religion, crack, potato chips, what not... At least you don't have to keep throwing money at the problem, or steal to maintain the high. Tithe one time and the addiction is for as long as you can see and click.

By the way, until I sink an opponent's carrier or smoke some crack, I'll never know what any of you are talking about. Both are highly unlikely in my case.

Heroin anyone?

I think we'll try to arrange a carrier 'trade' instead - and since you have more carriers, how about three of yours for one of ours? [:D]

Never had heroin but I can say that there is no greater thrill than sinking an enemy carrier. The hard part is explaining to your wife why you are whooping and doing a victory dance at midnight. [:-]

From what I recall of my Psychology degree (Circa 1989) an addiction is anything that interferes with your everyday life. As I have lost many hours of sleep (because my mind was still racing planning the next turn or worse yet the bolt upright in bed at 2am as you realize that you forgot to set CAP on your carriers) I think I count as being an addict. [:'(]

I can throw in my Master's degree in Counseling here. They say you can tell how addict someone is to Nicotine by how soon they light up a cigarette after awakening in the morning. If you turn off the alarm clock and then light up a cigarette (without getting out of bed). Your in bad shape.[X(]

Take that now to WitP. If you get up and first turn on your computer "before" starting the coffee or going to the bathroom so this is little time wasted on getting to checking your e-mail to see if you have a turn waiting. I think you "might" have an addiction problem. [:D][:D] Then there are those with over 3 PBEM games going at once and are doing Mods in their spare time. [8|]

Then again, there are a "few" people here with a significant number of post over 10,000. (i.e. "T") .[:D][:D]

RUPD3658 -> RE: WitP = Wargame crack (5/31/2007 4:56:47 AM)

I have tried the Matrix "Patches" but they just make the addiction worse. [;)]

I have used SPWAW as Methadone between PBEM turns.
