SurrenderMonkey -> Anyone Else Been Playing This Long? (6/6/2007 1:18:13 AM)

Hi fellas, My friend and I started a game of WitP about one month after it was originally released, and we are still playing that same game through all the patches, etc. We're into April of 1943, one day at a time, 4-5 PBEM turns per week. Anyone else been playing one game that long? As the Japanese I hold a line Port Moresby-Nanomea-Baker-Wake-Aleutians, and along the India-Burma border, plus Andaman Island. We've had great fun. I still have six big carriers, although the Zuikaku was sunk and the Shokaku has been in drydock for repairs for 5 months. I also lost a pair of battleships, and nearly lost the Musashi in action off Port Moresby. My USN opponent has begun to dominate with strategic bombing, but he lost all five of his big carriers in 1942, so he's just now approaching flattop parity. Heavy aerial fighting almost daily in the Nanomea(IJN)-Nukufetau(USN) strait, and also between Wallis Island-Cairns-Port Moresby-Gili Gili. I've lost four big cruisers and one battleship in this area, and he has lost a couple of battleships and cruisers and numerous destroyers. Air losses are almost exactly equal for the whole war, but the trend has been turning against me for several months. His subs are beginning to take a fearful toll of my tankers, and almost all available PC's, PG's, and MSW's are operating to try and protect the tanker lines. At Port Moresby he has landed most of three full divisions, and I am defending with a full division plus a regiment and two SNLF's, arty, etc. I have level 9 forts, and he is just patiently building up for the final assault, bombing the spittle out of my boys. Highlights included a bloody USMC landing at Wallis Island in Dec 1942 in the face of concentrated LBA and battleship interdiction. But he pulled it off and captured the island and airfield for his first toehold back into New Guinea. There was also a similar action at Nukufetau. The Japanese conducted a temporary occupation of Johnson Island with a full regiment, which was ultimately driven off by aerial bombing and supply difficulties. We also fought a six-month campaign to take Noumea in early 1942. My Japanese captured all of the island except for the base itself, and then ultimately failed and had to withdraw under fire in August 1942. He essentially traded two carriers to hold the island. This has been the most fun I've ever had wargaming, in over 25 years of playing. Thanks to Gary and Matrix for the great experience. When we finish in a couple more years, I'll update this thread. [:D]
