bleachers39 -> First impression not good (6/6/2007 2:50:51 AM)

Searching for a Baseball game to play. I figured I check out Pure Sim. So far the first impression isn't good. I had to register using an alternate email address, because the confirmation email was never recieved, and email to support was never answered. Hoefully this isn't a sign of things to come. Hopefully answers to questions can be found.

Hi Bleachers,

I have been looking for a baseball game too and have been "lurking" here and on the "Out of the Park" boards in order to get a feel for the game support.
I suggest that you might want to take a look at the threads under "Locker Room" and "3rd Party Add Ons" before you make a definite decision on the game.

From my review of the most recent demos for PureSim and OOTP i.e. "Out of the Park" I am leaning toward purchase of PureSim myself.

I see too that your initial post had already been answered by the Support folks too. That's always a good sign.

I've been searching for that great baseball game too. It should not be hard, LaRussa and Weaver (back in the 80's?) hit it. It was great to play any team from any era against any other team. I set up a league with the 67 Red Sox, 68 Detroit, 69 Baltimore, etc and play a full season with these, and other, great old time teams. Even the graphics were great! Black players were black, white players were white, right handed batters and hitters hit from the correct side, etc.

I've now tried Baseball Mogul and Puresim but while I can play any year's season I cannot easily mix different teams from different eras (or am missing something in the instructions).

Give me back Earl Weaver Baseball for Windows!!!

With PS, you can play with ANY team from ANY era, use real players, go with completely fictional players, or mix and match with any combo of the above. Two good ways to try:

(1) Use "Sandbox" mode to get any real player you want and put them wherever you want them.

(2) Setting up as association as Multiplayer, then putting all teams under human control, you can take complete control of everything. The only thing that cannot be done in this mode is managing individual games.

When first starting out, get an idea of what kind of association you want to create. The versatility of the game is its strength.

If you have any specific questions, post away. Someone will gladly help you. Have fun!

Thank you for the feedback. However, am I correct that this would mean creating each team player by player (which is the only way I thought it could be done)?

In LaRussa, Weaver, and Strat-O-Matic you can create a league and just drop an entire team, from whatever year you want, into a division effortlessly. Can that be done that easily in Puresim (or Mogul for that matter)? If one can do it that easily in Puresim I am excited about the game again, but would appreciate knowing how to do it. I may be missing something, but from reading the instructions (man, I really miss printed manuals) I can not determine how to do it.

Thank you very much for your help and clarifications.

On your very first screen, choose "Sandbox Mode". Then decide how many teams and divisions you want. You'll need to name them, or go with whatever random names and regions the computer assigns. You'll have many options to select, such as finances, injuries, AI trades, etc. One note of caution when using real players. If you choose the 60-man rosters, the computer will fill in your roster with many fictional players. This will also be the case with some 35-man rosters, especially older teams where there were not 35 players used during the season.

Once you've chosen all your options, you'll be taken to a screen where you'll see the words "Association Today" in the upper left corner. You'll also see a link that says "Click here to add/import real players and teams".

Click on the link and you'll be taken to the import players/teams screen. Here, you will choose individual players and/or teams to import. Teams and players from 1871 to 2006 are available for import.

On the bottom of the screen are team import options. Here you choose on which team your chosen players will be placed. You can choose an option to import all listed players, or pick your players with the mouse and control key. Once you've highlighted the players you want, click on the option for "Import selected player(s)". Make sure you have selected the right team under the "Team Import Options" at the bottom before importing your players.

Once you select your players/team, you can see them import into the association. After all players import, you will get a screen telling you how many were imported. You can then go to your next team and repeat the process. It takes just a minute or so for each team.

With the sandbox mode, you can pick your favorite teams from any era and pit them against each other. Make sure you check your stadiums before starting play. Often, the "default" stadiums will have odd dimensions and lead to weird scores. You should have no problem finding good stadiums both within the PS program and on this board's "User add-on" area.

Have fun ! ! ! ! !
