David Heath -> What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/6/2007 8:28:49 AM)

Hello Everyone

First let me start by saying how sorry I am for the issues we have with the release of John Tiller’s Campaign Series. The main reason is a simple a communication breakdown and an old version of the final build being mistakenly mastered. The Vista issue was an unforeseen but we are working on it and will update everyone once I have more.

The game will play fine on Windows XP systems and lower with the main exception of the missing addon Fall of Berlin. This will be added in the next update.

The current plan to to playtest the game and make sure we have all the correct files and release a patch by the end of the week. The only issue we expect that may take a little longer is the Vista error.

Now a lot of gamers have been asking what do we get with this release. You will be getting everything ever officially published by Talonsoft/Take2 and a little bit more. The Campaign Legion team will be moving the engine forward and listerning to what you all say about the game.

Reggy -> RE: What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/6/2007 8:39:42 AM)

Thanks David, this all looks good and should go a long way to building up a solid PBEM pool of players. I've bought already and will have enough to keep me busy till the next update.

dbt1949_slith -> RE: What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/6/2007 10:01:02 AM)

It works well on my XP machine and I've already tired a half dozen scenarios. I have all the originals but it's nice to have it all in one place plus you've fixed that crappy installion error that Talonsoft had in the original where you had to turn off you computer after installing but before the register the game part came up.

rockmedic109 -> RE: What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/6/2007 10:44:15 AM)

You list linked campaign games.  DO you still have the old Dynamic Campaign games as well?

Temple -> RE: What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/6/2007 3:26:21 PM)

David, just so things are clear [;)], in several posts the game "East Front" is listed, like you mention above. Do I assume you really mean "East Front II"? Also, assuming it really is EFII, is the original East Front included in the JTCS package? Honest I don't care if the original EF is in JTCS, just EFII.

Per what you said above,
quote:

The game will play fine on Windows XP systems and lower with the main exception of the missing addon Fall of Berlin. This will be added in the next update.

The current plan to to playtest the game and make sure we have all the correct files and release a patch by the end of the week. The only issue we expect that may take a little longer is the Vista error.
Sorry to be dense, but does this mean the add-on Fall of Berlin will be in the patch at the end of the week?

I would imagine so, but I'll leave that answer up to Erik or David.

This is one of the few times I would recommend this package as a "VALUE DEAL". Getting everything (excluding the messup with the East Front portion (which they will fix within a few days)) for $34.99 is a bargain. Especially if you've never played this before. You're getting a chitload of gaming entertainment and a lifetime of replayability. I rarely go out on a limb and recommend anything upon release, but, this is one of those few times I'm pretty sure you're getting value for your money. I could have only hoped they would have done this with the Close Combat series remake, but, alas they didn't. If I had $34.99 right now I'd buy them. Anyone wanna loan me $34.99? Erik? David? Marc the love of my life? hahahaaha Just releasing this has me pulling out my older games and wanting to play them again. I'm "GUN'ned out sotospeak from one of my birthday presents I need some strategy to play atm. ;)

I thought this was coming also with the original add-ons eg:

West Front - Operation Sea Lion...this was fun

Rising Sun - 'Imperial.....' Could never get hold of this

Can you confirm if these are included as (and it may be me) I seem to be getting mixed messages as to what is in the package

Could you please confirm - Thankyou

Jarexx -> RE: What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/6/2007 7:51:09 PM)

Well the Sea Lion scenarios are in there anyhow not sure about Imperial Strike tho.

That's not precisely true since Divided Ground was also released under the Campaign Series banner and is not included. It seems to actually be everything published covering WW2.

I never bought DG because it had such a bad rep on release. This is still a great package without it, especially for people that don't own all the games already. But it's statements like the above (and the list below) that had me expecting a little more.

I wouldn't exactly call DG a Tiller game.

asiaticus -> RE: What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/7/2007 11:46:17 AM)

The scenarios and linked campaign game from Imperial Strike are there.

nikb -> RE: What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/7/2007 12:55:06 PM)

I'm a bit mixed up at the moment.  I can't follow all the add ons - as this is the first real contact I have had with the game in years.

By the sound of it my download of yesterday was the incorrect build? This may be patched?

If this is the case surely I can redownload the proper version when this becomes available?  Can't say I would be too happy if I had to patch a game on this basis after purchasing a full version in good faith.

I downloaded the game yesterday and gave it a whirl and also did some comparisons with my installed copies of the Talonsoft versions of the game. If you are not running Vista then the game will run fine, no worries there (I have WinXP SP2). The only content missing, from my initial review, is associated with the content from the "Fall of the Reich" add-on to East Front II, which is about perhaps 5% of the overall total of scenarios and campaigns. So you still have plenty to chose from regarding scenarios and campaigns to play. The missing content is planned to be made available by the end of this week.

I can't say officially, but I cannot imagine that the game would have to be re-downloaded. The missing scenarios and campaigns are simply files to be added to the installed game and should be a relatively small download. The fix for Vista, well, I'm not sure but I imagine it's probably just a few executables, again a small download.

Also speaking unofficially, I don't know if there will be a corrected "proper" version of the installation file available for download. I imagine that this would be a bit of an impact to Matrix's servers. I wouldn't be concerned about having to run a patch or two once they are released, it's just a matter of executing them by a click or double-click, entering your serial number (which can be inserted nicely by a cut and paste) and then letting the patch installer run, which should only take a very short while. Still, if this is a concern then you might want to wait until this is officially resolved.

CJMello63 -> RE: What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/7/2007 11:50:49 PM)

Missing files can be added to the first patch then everyone who did the DD would be on par with those purchasing the box copy.

nikb -> RE: What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/8/2007 2:04:52 AM)

I kind of asked myself this question:

If I had a choice would I purchase and download for the full price an early build (albeit 95-99% of the proper version), or wait and purchase a full build when available?

My answer is, and always will be, the full build option.  Especially when paying the full price.

It does worry me that I have a version that is going to differ from the bulk of the released disks.  Alright there maybe a patch...but in a year or two will this lead to a mix up if wanting to install it again.  I have no problem with patches.  Usually they are very much appreciated and now days you kind of expect some kind of patch, especially from enthusiast wargame developers.  However, this is a patch to bring it up to the advertised start point.  Not a patch to bring it to an enhanced 1.01 or 1a version, a patch to bring it to 0!

As it is my first ever download purchased game I did have reservations initially - mainly that I couldn't save it to disk for furture use.

I hope this post doesn't sound too caustic.  The game is fantastic - and I very much appreciate the effort that has been put into it.  I just want what I initially thought I purchased - a download of the proper build.

CJMello63 -> RE: What You Will Get with John Tiller's Campaign Series (6/8/2007 3:19:52 AM)

If you just want the DD get it now. However if you have your heart set on an actual you will have to wait.

I copied my D/L to CD ok.

Have payed with PayPal, downloaded for a little more than one hour. All was fine, Matrix CS-Version runs under WinXP! Will see what it´s new or different to the "old" games and i´m sure that the following Updates will eleminate the problems.

Whichever you prefer.

Hi Guys

I own East Front 2 and West Front. Enjoy both games but found the (original) campaigns to be very poor. Basically a serious of random encounters using the same unit. Does this release have a better campaign mode?

No. The Dynamic Campaigns were not revised.

I would recommend playing the Linked Campaigns. They are vastly superior to the Dynamic Campaigns, actually "telling a story", and tend to be more challenging.

The Dynamic Campaigns are completely random. Hopefully this is something we will look into in a future update.

Can you tell me in what scenarios or campaigns I can find some of these new uits? Especially would like to see the trains, scout planes and ships in action.
Also, you mention all of these as well...please, I really don't want to digthrough all the gaes to find them...
