stall84 -> Wanna make the move to mod's... (6/9/2007 7:02:58 PM)

I didnt know which forum to put this in so I chose the war room, because it seems to be more active.

Anyway, Ive been playing WITP for a while now, and I think hands down its the best overall war game Ive ever played.

Even though Im more partial to Germany.. if I want to be an axis fanboy, I love playing as Japan since you are allowed some control over your economy, research and production.

Anyway.. Ive got WITP on 2 computers, and I wanted to mod one of the versions so I could try something new.

I'm very naive when it comes to these mods.. from the quick research Ive done it seems there are two main ones.. CHS and RHS..?

It also seems that most moded scenarios 'run' off one of the above two versions?

Like I said.. I dont really know...

But I would like some advice on which mod would be reccomended..

I'm looking for something that will allow me to play as Japan, and have more flexibility in production... like maybe some IJN units that never got produced... or aircraft that arent in game..

Any suggestions? And how hard is it to install these things?

i like CHS - and the RHS mod seems daunting to me to install from the reports i have read.

CHS isn't terribly difficult to install if you follow the directions exactly... if you run the ModSelect utility (provided) you can get out of problems you have encountered.

Go to the stickied section in the main WITP forum to find WITP sites where you can download it.

stall84 (I'd love to hear where that name originates!), it appears that the RHS has a scenario that does what you want the best. I think that El Cid calls it the RHS EOS (Empire of the Sun) scenario. However, I have never yet tried any of the RHS scenarios for two reasons: one, the much more convoluted installation is quite daunting; and two, he seems to keep coming up with a new version every week.

I like the CHS scenarios, but they haven't given either side any "what if"s - CHS stands for Combined Historical Scenario and so was a cooperative effort to improve the order of battle for the full campaign.

How're things down in Macon these days? My last roommate at UGA grew up off Vineville Road, so I'm a little familiar with the town (almost all my time in Georgia was spent living in Athens, but my grandmother attended Mercer - she was from Brunswick).

haha.. I live in Atlanta.. I had to get the hell outta macon.. Grew up there and had plenty enough of it.

stall84 is a combination of Stallings.. my last name and the year of my birth 1984

And I most definately am intimidated by the installation of these things, so I'll prbly have to stay away from RHS... but the one mod you mentioned does sound like it would hit the spot..

What Im really looking for is a mod that will give Japan more oppurtunity to produce... well... more!

Because if you're winning as Japan, and doing well... you would expect there would be more room for production than was historically true

Any scenario will allow Japan to produce more IF:

Japan captures the SRA in a fairly intact condition.
Japan delivers the oil and resources to her industry.
Japan carefully nurtures her industrial growth (plenty of threads on that).

Here's some sites with WITP mods. They're not the only ones.

Spooky's UV/WITP site: http://mathubert.free.fr/

RogueUSMC's WITP site: http://witp.tylerroguedesigns.com/

Andrew Brown's WITP site (the official [!?!] CHS site): http://www.bur.st/%7Eakbrown/witp.html#P3

I know that there have been some others who have made scenarios with improvements for the japanese, you should find them on one of the sites I've listed.
