Staggerwing -> Modding question (6/10/2007 9:44:24 PM)

What graphics format are the raw images in for plane, ship, etc? The resource
folder has all files with the extension "*.srf" including one called PNGtest.srf.
but it is not recognized by any graphics program I have. If this is proprietary
or a combined graphic and stat file how do I produce new graphics and import them
to create entirely new ships and planes? This was one of the things that attracted me
to the original Complete CAW.

EDIT: the manual has some info in the very beginning of the EDITOR section (21.3).
There seem to be more image source options than before but I wish there was a template
for the dumbkopfen such as myself to wrap our eyeballs around.
If anyone is familiar with this stuff please feel free to drop a post in this
thread. A step by step to creating a ship from scratch would be the bees knees [:)]

There is a whole section in the manual regarding the editor. Read page 43 for texture formats and how to get them in/out of the game.

Thanks, OSO.
I just stumbled across it myself but I'm still scratching my noggin.
The orig CCAW manual had a step by step but I can't find my copy [:(]

This is how I got a texture out of the resources.

Load the editor.
On the upper left side there is a resource button. Click that.
The GUI will change. In the upper left hand side select a directory. (planes, ships, scenario)
Next select a .srf file in that same window.

There should be a list box below and another just to the right of it labeled resource type. Select one of the resources in the left box. You should get a preview. Select "texture" for resource type.

There is a box for modifying, adding, and extracting resources on the lower right side of the GUI. Click on extract. A directory window will open. Create a name for the file and save it in a directory of your choice. Be sure to add an image extension to it ( .bmp, .jpg, etc). You can then open it in a graphics editing program.

From my understanding you can create a new resource and here is where you put it all together. I can't help you with the other steps.

Have I missed this?

Found it in the CAW files. Thanks SSG
