Hi All,

I am a relatively new to Harpoon and purchased Harpoon 3 ANW. I have upgraded to version 3.8 but I have some questions regarding the most appropriate and/or compatible database and scenarios to use with this version. I am asking this because I have read some threads about changes in AI unit behaviour with respect to defensive weapons use etc.

I think the changes to this new "model" are good for a player like me who does not like to micromanage so much but I can see how this could render some scenarios "difficult" to play if they were designed with a different AI behaviour in mind.

I have all the standard databases that come with the game and have also downloaded the PlayersDB which comes with a large number of scenarios.

My questions are these:

1. Which database is most appropriate for use with the new version. I understand that most of the popular databases can already be used with version 3.8, but which is the most compatible. Please, I am not asking for a comparison on accuracy or originality, just a database that will work; and

2. Which database contains scenarios that can be used with version 3.8 without any problems. I am assuming the standard databases will be OK, but I just wanted to confirm this.

I am not asking which databases are better, just which ones will work.

I want to be able to load a databases, for example the standard Harpoon 3 database, click on a scenario and play without worrying whether it is going to be unwinable due to the new AI changes and scenario design incompatibilities.

The DB2000 scenarios on HarpoonHQ are in the process of being rebuilt here:-

The Colonial Wars Database is now fully compatible, with the 65-79 Database likely to be soon.

To the best of my knowledge the only other Databases that are compatible would be the Original Database itself and the ANWDB, both of which should be fully compatible. The HUD III will also be once released. If anyone can let me know any that need adding to the list, by all means let me know.

Hi Flankerk,

I have headed to the HarpoonHQ and I am having trouble finding the DB2000 database for 3.8.  I can find the download link the v10.0 3.6 version but the link for the 3.8 version is not active.  Can the 3.6 version be used with 3.8 or are you guys in the middle of converting it over to the new version.

DB2000 works with 3.8 but is not yet fully compliant. In game terms that means that it won't yet take advantage of the additional flags and so forth. However most scenarios released to date won't have used these anyway. ( For example UNREP etc)
At this stage we are primarily rebuilding scenarios that should work , and will add in others as the database gets converted.

I virtually only play scenarios through now with 3.8, and there are few differences noticeable using DB2000.
